Frequently Asked Questions

What is a co-op?

By co-op we mean that all families are involved in cooperation so that our group can run smoothly. At Connections of Acadiana we gather on Monday mornings for enriching classes and social opportunities. Parents teach classes, help teachers, monitor hallways, and pitch-in for things like clean-up duty.

Is this a religious group?

We are an inclusive Christian group and our members represent many denominations! We have a general statement of faith that can be found in our Handbook on the Resources page. Members are not required to sign this, but should understand that our gathering time is approached from a general Biblical worldview.

Is there a drop-off program?

In addition to providing enriching classes and spaces for our children, we seek to build community between families and parents as well. For this reason we ask that a parent or guardian remain on-campus during our meeting times.

So what do parents do all morning?

The schedule is arranged so that all parents teach or help in a class for two hours during the morning and are “off” for one hour to enjoy the company of other parents and get a break.

What does a typical day at Connections look like?

We start our morning with an Opening Assembly together for announcements, a devotional, and prayer. After Assembly, classes are dismissed by age to their rooms where they rotate through three class periods and a lunch period. This all happens on Monday from 10:00am-1:45pm

Where are you located?

Our facilities are located on Dulles in Lafayette.

What is the application process?

Registration is open twice during the year. Once for Fall Semester and again for Spring Semester. Interested families may choose to schedule a visit to preview Connections on a Monday morning. Fill out the online application by navigating to the “Join Us” page on the website.

What days do you meet?

We meet once a week on Monday mornings from 10:00am-1:45pm. We have three class periods and a lunch period.

What classes do you offer?

Classes will vary by semester and by which parents are teaching. In general we seek to offer many enrichment courses and past semesters have included classes such as S.T.E.M, French, Nature Studies, Creative Writing, Art, Math, History, and more! To see a current schedule of this semester’s classes use the navigation at the top of this page.

Do I have to teach?

We encourage all of our parents to teach a class at some point during their membership, some of our parents enjoy co-teaching with a partner! However, leading a class is not required. If you do not wish to lead a class you will be assigned as a room helper or hall monitor.

What curriculum does Connections use?

We do not use a set curriculum. Teachers use a variety of curriculums depending on which classes are being taught each semester. For more information on a specific class’s curriculum you can contact the Director or teacher of that class. You are free to follow your family’s own curriculum of choice during the week at home. Courses at Connections are supplemental and are meant to enrich your family’s homeschooling experience.

If you are new to homeschooling and would like more information about a curriculum to follow on your days at home, we have a wonderful community of parents who have resources to share. Please contact us for more information.

How much does it cost?

The cost per family is $160 each semester (Pay $150 with cash/check discount). This covers all members of your family and collectively the fees pay for the cost of our facility, insurance, background check, and basic supplies such as printer, paper, etc. There may be additional costs for t-shirts, field trips, etc.
