AgWorks at CCA Facility Tour
May 20, 2019 2-3:00pm

AgWorks at CCA is a new aquaponics facility located at CCA’s Capital Campus in Harrisburg. Take a tour of the AgWorks at CCA facility and discover everything our living, learning, laboratory has to offer.

AgWorks at CCA is our brand-new, fully functional, interactive state-of-the-art controlled environment agriculture facility housed in our Capital Campus and Family Service Center in Harrisburg. AgWorks at CCA is an agriculturally focused educational and career-building offering for students at CCA, a Pennsylvania public cyber school serving grades K through 12.

What is AgWorks at CCA?

AgWorks at CCA is the largest public educational aquaponics facility in the country, using state-of-the-art technology to create a controlled environment agriculture that provides learning experiences for students of all ages. This hands-on, student-led facility enables students to learn about aquaponics, hydroponics, aeroponics and a variety of career options.

This tour gives students the opportunity to learn about aquaponics, hydroponics and aeroponics. Aquaponics is an agricultural method that uses fish waste to grow plants instead of soil. The aquaponics facility includes a population of fish and a number of plants. AgWorks at CCA houses tilapia and koi fish whose waste is filtered into plant beds to fertilize plants.

What is controlled environment agriculture?

Controlled environment agriculture uses technology to produce food. Crops are grown in an enclosed structure, monitored by technology and agricultural specialists, to protect and maintain the best growing conditions.
