For those who joined us in March for the Gettysburg Leadership Seminar with Dr. Michael McGough, HE’S BACK! – and this time with a new seminar for our high school students: a Pre-Employment Awareness Seminar. Open to all 9th-12th graders , this seminar will be an essential tool for our students, as they begin to think about, plan for, and prepare for “life after homeschool.”

He will answer questions such as: What is a potential employer looking for? And what will turn them off? How is a college interview different than a job interview?

He will focus on writing resumes, letters of reference: what are they and how do I get one, job search skills, interviewing strategies and how to dress for the job you want. And because his teacher’s heart wants each student to succeed, Dr. McGough will candidly discuss such topics as voice modulation and volume, bad breath, hair, tattoos, and piercings.

Studies have shown that students who have pre-employment instruction and practice, do dramatically better at the interview process. So come prepared with a notebook, writing utensils, and lots of questions. Dress is business casual. (Look it up if you’re not sure what exactly that means) Bring a brown bag lunch and we will enjoy a “working lunch” as Dr. McGough discusses the newest trend of “job interviews over lunch” and talks about good table manners.

This four-hour seminar will include information he has taught to his college students on how to present your best self in an interview, even explaining how to show confidence without coming across as arrogant. As is often the case with this seminar, the student questions will take the discussion into a variety of topics, all of which are related to the theme of the seminar: Pre-Employment Awareness. Shortly after the holiday season, Dr. McGough will provide us with a worksheet that the students can work on prior to the seminar. This Word document will be sent out to those signed up via an email and will provide the students with an opportunity to begin considering the pre-employment process, and to begin organizing their thinking.

Note: You are welcome to drop off your high school students if you have younger children at home. There will be parents staying and available to chaperone the event.

Note: This seminar is open to HAHA members only until Dec 1, 2021 at which time sign ups will be opened to the general homeschooling public.
