What happens to our waste once the garbage man throws it in his truck and drives away? Come and find out!
Students will tour the facility and will learn about the technology that not only reduces our garbage to a small volume of ash, but also recycles it into electricity. The presentation will cover the following topics: Where garbage come from; How much is generated; How recycling impacts the waste stream; Types of waste generated; The importance of environmental controls and regulations; how a waste-to-energy facility uses garbage as a fuel to generate electricity; and What happens to the ash leftover from process our garbage.
Safety requirements: Closed-toe shoes must be worn! You will not be allowed into the facility with flip-flops or sandals of any kind. Students under the age of 6 are not allowed inside the building for safety reasons.
