Debra Christiansen To All Instructors
I love to help students unlock their potential. Homeschooling from the beginning has led me on a journey of discovering styles of learning and various curriculum that, while they don't each always look beautiful, have taught me not to judge a book by its cover. I'm a registered nurse by education but jumped right into mothering and then homeschooling. Some day I might use my degree to work outside the home, but in the meantime I enjoy relearning all the things I glossed over in my own public school upbringing. Grades came easy to me but understanding is where it's at, and I am thrilled to explore the "why" behind the knowledge. Co-teaching creation science to preschoolers got my feet wet early on in our journey at RMC, and since 2021 I've been co-teaching IEW with Jackie Smith. It's a curriculum that initially discouraged me as a mom, being so structured, which I initially read as rigid. As a lover of words and language, I've come to appreciate the defined structure of IEW, realizing that it builds solid awareness of quality language usage. Developing a writer's voice and creative side can flow where a solid grammar and writing foundation has been built, and IEWbuilds a solid writing toolbox for writers of all kinds.
