Macey Kortje To All Instructors
I am originally from the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan where I was homeschooled from kindergarten to graduation. I have been married to my wonderful husband Joshua for four years. We met and were married in Ohio and relocated to the Syracuse area when Josh accepted a job here in 2021. My husband and I both love living in New York and exploring the nature this state has to offer. We are currently working on hiking the 46 high peaks in the Adirondacks. This summer, we are planning to hike 12 more mountians which will hopefully bring our total to 33 out of 46 mountains climbed. We are also working on our goal of visiting all fifty states as a married couple. When I am not hiking or traveling, I enjoy weightlifting, writing, gardening, cooking, and baking.
I am a 2020 Cedarville University graduate, majoring in linguistics with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). After graduation, I worked in Adult Education in Ohio as an ESL teacher. When I moved to New York, I found another position, which I held for two years, teaching ESL to adults. In addition to teaching ESL, I have worked as a preschool assistant and an English tutor for elementary school children.
My literature class will be a mixture of short stories and classic American novels. Students should expect and prepare for many class discussion and small assignments related to these various readings. Each novel will also have either an essay or project assigned upon completion. My goal is to create a desire for knowledge, an ejoyment of reading, and an appreciation for literature as students work their way through each part of our literary journey.
