Mrs. Shaun Standford To All Instructors
Hello, my name is Shaun Standford. I am a wife, mother of 5 wonderful, grown sons and I have 2 wonderful daughters-in-law, and one little granddaughter who is the love of my life! We are excitedly anticipating the birth of our 2nd granddaughter in January, 2026! I have been a lover of languages my whole life because they are the key to connecting with people in meaningful ways. In middle school and high school I studied French. While at Onondage Community College I continued to study French, and added one semester of Italian. I got my Associate in Applied Arts degree, and then decided I was also interested in science. I went back to OCC and earned my Associate in Applied Science degree. After getting married, I combined my interest in science with my desire to connect with people by getting a job at St. Joseph's Hospital working as a Respiratory Therapist. I worked there for 6 years until my first son was born. After taking some time off until my first 3 sons were school age, I went back to OCC and took 4 semesters of American Sign Language. I began working as a Sign Language Interpreter in Syracuse, and Central NY. After several years working as a community interpreter, I eventually took a job with the Liverpool Central School District as an instructional interpreter for Deaf, or hard-of-hearing students, where I worked for 20 years until retiring in 2021. Half of the years I spent working in the LCSD, I worked as a Special Education Teaching Assistant working with autistic children, and children with multiple disabilties. I am also very musical, play 4 instruments and am the music director/worship leader at my church. I thoroughly enjoy young people and hope that they will be able to use what they learn in my ASL classes to enrich their lives and build deeper, more meaningful relationships with others.
