Central Mass Christian Homeschool co-op

FAQs

General Information

Q:

How do I learn about your co-op?

A:

Please start here at our website.  Read over everything carefully before reaching out.  Read our Statement of Faith, our FAQ documents, look over our Calendar of events as well as what Classes we're currently offering (these change yearly).  If you still have questions, feel free to send an email to cmhscoop@gmail.com .

Q:

Can I schedule a visit?

A:

Yes!  We encourage this so that you understand better how we run.  Visits can be scheduled in February and March - please see our Calendar to know when we meet (about twice a month).

Step 1:

Read over our website carefully and "Request Membership".  This gives us some basic information about your family and gives us some confidence in your interest.  This also places your family into our Wait Pool.

Step 2:

Send an email to cmhscoop@gmail.org and include which dates you're available to visit (see our calendar for when we are meeting), all students' names, current grades, AND which classes to visit for grades 6 and above.  Without ALL of this information, we will not schedule a visit for your family.  Please note:  We do not meet weekly.  You must look at our Calendar to see in RED which days our co-op meets.

Step 3:

Assuming you included ALL of the requested information (see Step 2), Savanna will reach out to schedule your visit.

We look forward to meeting your family!

Q:

How do you prioritize potential families in your Wait Pool?

A:

Our Science Lab classes have space in them.  If you are interested in your children taking a Science Lab class (please read the description carefully before committing to this), you will go to the top of our Wait Pool.

Please do not state interest in a Science Lab class just to get an interview scheduled.  We will expect your children to actually take this class once your family is accepted.

*The rational for this - we used to advertise our co-op and highlight these Lab classes, thus they were very full!  Now that we do not advertise (because we are full with just Word of Mouth), we have found these classes to be smaller than we prefer.  We have invested in some high-end lab equipment and these lab classes are excellent!  These lab classes are taught by parents who have a background in these fields and are excellent teachers!  These are not your basic Kitchen Lab class.  High end microscopes, real specimin, real chemicals, knowledgeable teachers.

Q:

How can I become a member?

A:

Step 1:

*Read over this website thoroughly to be sure we look like a good fit.  If your questions aren't answered on the website, you can reach out to cmhscoop.org with additional questions.

Step 2:

On the Home page, click on "Request Membership" and fill in that form.  This will NOT guarantee membership, this only adds you to our Wait Pool.  We have a lengthy Application and Interview process to ensure we are a good fit for your family and you are a good fit for us.

Step 3:

In mid-January, we will reach out to see if you're interested in visiting.  We have limited space for visitors and will schedule these on a first-come basis (assuming you include all the necessary information).  You will reply via email cmhscoop@gmail.com with your desire to visit.  Please include all students' names and current grade level as well as which classes (grades 6 and up only) the students want to visit.  We will not be chasing this information down, so please include it all in one place.

On occasion, we have space open up in October and January.  If this happens, we may reach out to see if you're still interested.

Step 4:

In mid to late April, our formal Application will open up.  We will reach out to all who have "Requested Membership" at that time with the link to the Application.  If we receive that by the first week of June, we will consider your family for membership.  At that time, we will begin sorting through all of the Applications to see which families we have room for.  By mid-June we will begin reaching out to those families for a phone interview.  We try to complete this process by the end of June, but it may continue into July due to vacations.

Q:

Qualifications to Join?

A:

*You must be a homeschooling family.  Not Virtual Public School.  The parents must be the primary directors of the students' education, not another entity.

*You must be willing to teach a class (at least 6 weeks leading and 6 weeks assisting, but many of our teachers commit to as many as 14 weeks as lead teachers).  We are a true co-op in that we cannot provide classes unless all of our families provide a parent teacher (not a babysitter).

*You must be willing to sign our Statement of Faith.

*You must be a family that is not accepting financial benefits from government vouchers or tax breaks, or any other financial benefit that will directly impact CMCH in any form of oversight, record keeping, or information sharing.

Financial Information

Q:

How much does this co-op cost to attend?

A:

Each family pays $60 Membership Dues for the year.  In addition, some of our classes for grades 6 and up have Class Fees to cover the more expensive materials.  Some of the classes for grades 6 and up do not have additional materials fees.  All classes for grades 5 and below have no additional material fees (all materials are covered by the family dues).

Any additional activities (field trips, parties, fairs, etc) will have additional costs.
