Mrs. Jenni Van Winkle To All Instructors

I am originally from Central Oregon and even though I’ve lived in Seattle for 20 years, Oregon will always be my home. I grew up in the outdoors camping, hiking, and fishing with my family and wherever I went, I was singing. I adore music and studied classical voice in high school and college. When I moved to Seattle, I studied Jazz Vocal Performance at Cornish College of the Arts, where I earned a Bachelors' of Music degree. While studying music at Cornish, I worked as a literacy tutor at a local independent school in downtown Seattle. I loved watching the lightbulb go off for kids when they discovered something new! It was there that my love of teaching blossomed and I pursued a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Seattle Pacific University. My first job after graduate school was as a music teacher in the Renton School District and I loved that I could combine my love of music with my love for teaching.

I took a break from teaching to raise my family. When my children were very young, I began writing with a good friend of mine and I discovered how much I love the art of putting words together. With a few other friends, we ran a website for moms to submit their writing. My role as managing editor of that website enabled me to grow in my ability to help others get their ideas out of their heads and onto the page in creative ways. During the pandemic, we even wrote a book and self-published in the early autumn of 2020. I also love to travel, hike, read, and spend time with friends and family. My husband and I have been married for 17 years and we have three children, twin boys, age 11, a daughter, age 8, and our dog Jake is 1
