Description:

Have you ever secretly thought history is only facts and dates and nothing more?  Do you wonder what value the Salem Witch Trials or the Roaring 20's have on you today?  In US History we are going to be exploring the impact past events really have on life today.  And to do that the student will be answering some of the great questions of US History such as Was McCarthy right? And what was the cause of the Civil War?

The course will be designed to present US History from the colonial period to the present by examining the major political and cultural events.  The goal will be to interact with history, and be able to make historically informed arguments about modern life.  The first semester will include events from colonization through the Civil War, and the second semester Reconstruction to the Present.

Classwork involves lectures, quizzes and discussion.  Homework involves preparatory reading and a written response due each class.  Each semester will include one book report, and a take home test.
