       Eta Sigma Alpha National

Home School Honor Society

Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society (etasigmaalpha.com) was the first honor society established exclusively for homeschooled students in Grades 9-12. Founded in 1999 by Joanne E. Juren, M.Ed., it has grown into an international organization with several chapters over the years in Mexico, Europe, and Africa.

The purpose of Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among homeschool students. To achieve this purpose, Eta Sigma Alpha National Home School Honor Society shall provide opportunities for the development of leadership and service.

Eta Sigma Alpha encourages the development of an intellectual climate that will stimulate the exchange of ideas and ideals, foster scholarship, and promote academic excellence. Eta Sigma Alpha  also advocates for homeschooling as a viable and successful educational methodology and acts as a liaison for homeschooling to the general public, colleges and universities, and the media.

Students may join local chapters in their community or join the national Omega Chapter as an individual member. In 2017, building on the success of ESA, Mrs. Juren founded the National Home School Science Honor Society (NHSSHS.org) which recognizes and encourages scholarship and interest in science among home school students. Students join as individual members and may earn awards based on science participation.

Lake Houston Conquerors

The Lake Houston Conquerors have offered local Homeschoolers a Godly environment for children to experience competitive basketball and track for years. As our home school community grows, our program will adjust and adapt to the growth in our community so that our program remains viable to our athletes.

Registration for our 2020-21 basketball season is open now. Although we are living in uncertain times, we are planning to have a normal season, and the first practice will be on August 31st. We expect to have teams for both boys & girls from age 8 to 18 and hope to see you soon!

The LHC Track season will begin registration in January of 2021 and typically runs through the end of April.

Instruments of Praise Homeschool
Band and Orchestra

Instruments of Praise, homeschool band and orchestra, has been serving homeschool families in the Greater Houston area since 1995. Directed by Paul Sommer, these bands and orchestras are known for their excellence in performance and are given a number of opportunities to minister each year.

The honor full orchestra and advanced string orchestra is also open to students who have graduated from high school and are not older than twenty-two years of age.

The Fall 2020 semester will begin in August and the Spring 2021 semester will begin in January, with classes meeting once a week for fifteen weeks each semester.

The beginner, intermediate and advanced band, and string orchestra classes are fifty minutes long. The full honor orchestra classes are sixty minutes long.

Beginner Band is for students who have no experience on their instruments.

Intermediate Band and Intermediate String Orchestra are for students who have played for at least one year.

Placement for Advanced Band will be determined by Mr. Sommer.

Advanced String Orchestra and Full Honor Orchestra are by audition only.

The classes are held once a week at three convenient locations throughout the Greater Houston area. The locations: Spring, Northwest Houston, and Katy.

The ultimate goal of Instruments of Praise is to develop and prepare each student to minister to the Lord and others on their musical instrument. Learning to play an instrument is a new adventure for students. It is an enriching experience for all children. It is our sincere desire to do all we can to make this a gratifying and worthwhile experience. The student who plays an instrument learns discipline, cooperation with others, and a new way to a fuller, richer life.
