FAQs

Q:

What does the membership fee cover?

A:

The annual family membership fee allows you to participate in any of our classes, field trips, or events.  The fee is per family; it does not change if you have 1 child or 6 children.  Expenses covered by the annual fee include the cost of our website, supplies, information packets, etc.  SPLaSH directors are not paid.

Q:

What is your refund policy?

A:

The annual membership fee is non-refundable. Class tuition field trips and event fees are also non-refundable, unless a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. There will be no partial refunds issued for missed classes due to illness or other reasons.

Q:

Do my children have to participate in the classes, service opportunities, or field trips?

A:

SPLaSH is set up like a buffet.  You can pick and choose which activities are best for your family. Some families might only want to participate in the service activities. Others might just want social interaction for teens or moms. As a member, all of our activities are available for you to choose from.  We recommend that you participate in some of each of the activities to get the full experience.

Q:

Can I drop my children off for the classes?

A:

For the safety of our children 5th grade and under, a parent must stay on campus during elective classes, corporate classes or service opportunities.  A nearby room will be available for moms, toddlers, and babies to visit with each other while they are waiting for older siblings.  Crayons and paper will be available; you can bring small toys from home to keep the little ones busy.

Q:

Do I have to volunteer for anything?

A:

SPLaSH is a volunteer-driven support group, run by "parent power".  For the success of the group, each family is required to help out in some way.  With the number of families in our group, it is likely you will only be serving about once a semester.  Keeping in mind your skills, gifts, and the activities your children will participate in, please choose at least one team below to be a part of.  You will enter your choice on the website registration form.  (SPLaSH members who are already volunteering in a specific capacity, such as director or teaching a class, are exempt from this requirement.)  Please feel free to suggest another capacity in which you could help!

Q:

What is FPEA?

A:

Florida Parent Educators Association (FPEA) is a nonprofit, self-supporting, statewide homeschool association.  They exist solely to serve homeschooling families in Florida.  FPEA executes that mission through support for the legal right to homeschool, local state school board education and interaction, support-group networking, a state convention, local conferences, informative communications, and most importantly by giving individual encouragement.  FPEA hosts an annual convention in May.  At the convention, curriculum vendors display their products and subject area experts conduct workshops.  Benefits of membership to FPEA include discounts on books, curriculum, and the convention, publications such as A Guide to Homeschooling in Florida, and The Almanac, and access to your District Director, who is available to answer any questions you have.  If you join FPEA through SPLASH, the cost is $18 - a $10 discount off of the normal membership rate.
