HOPE Bookswap

Where: Prince William County George Hellwig Memorial Park (for more information on the park and directions, visit:      http://www.pwcparks.org/ParksFieldsTrails/tabid/59/Default.aspx

HOPE sponsors an annual event to allow area homeschoolers the opportunity to buy and sell used books (or new books never used).  The entire family is welcome to participate in this event, which usually draws over a hundred people. Interested parents and others do not have to be HOPE members to attend the bookswap.

Directions: Hellwig Park is located about 10 miles south of Manassas just off Highway 234 at the mid-county soccer fields and Independent Hill mini-library (14420 Bristow Road, Manassas 20112).

After you turn onto the library road, turn right and follow the signs for the soccer fields at back of park.

Cancellation (rain) dates: If inclement weather (rain, or high winds) is in the forecast, check the hopehs.org website after 9pm on the night before for a cancellation message.  If needed, rain dates have been set for Thursday, May 23th or Tuesday, May 28th.

a)  The day is reserved for families to sell their books (or those of friends who cannot attend). Park rules prohibit new and used book dealers (businesses) from selling their materials.

b)  Unfortunately, no one may sell other business items, including food and beverages. These items require business permits and the collections of sales tax. Violations may keep HOPE from using the park next year.

c)  Members are encouraged to bring their own water/drinks, snacks, chairs, sunscreen, blankets, folding tables, etc.

d)  Everyone is encouraged to have fun by bringing sports balls and other items ideal for field day activities. Children may play in the open grassy area and the grass sports field. Please tell your teens that they may not play on the artificial turf field.

e)  Each item should be marked with a price. No bartering will be allowed. If an item does not sell, the seller may mark the price down at any time.

f)  Sellers are asked to bring some extra small bills and coins to make change.

g)  Buyers are encouraged to thoroughly review items before purchase, especially items you may have heard about or seen advertised in catalogs.

h)  Unsold books can be sold in the huge used curriculum hall at the HEAV convention in Richmond (June 6-8, 2019). Visit www.heav.org and click on the convention link for more information on how to sell your books at the convention.
