How to Homeschool – Getting Started

From legal issues to what a day might look like, Ellen gives some insight on where and how to start your homeschooling journey. 

Ellen Davis is a homeschooling mom for over 10 years.  Ellen and her husband, Charlie Davis, reside in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  They have been married for 15 years and have four children.  Ellen has been involved in Classical Conversations homeschool leadership for almost 8 years.  She has a passion for classical education and promoting homeschooling. Prior to raising a family, Ellen served in many capacities on several national, state, and local campaigns.   She was the political director of GOPAC, the Executive Director of The Republican Party of Louisiana and the founding President of the Louisiana Children’s Education Alliance and Advocates, which advocated school choice in the state of Louisiana.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Classical Studies.

Curriculum and Testing

Charlotte Mason? Classical? UNschooling?  So many options… Sabrina sheds some light on the difficult decision of which curriculum to choose and the issue of “to test or not to test?”!

Sabrina is a wife to Jerome and veteran homeschool mom to a junior, senior, and kindergartener. She can normally be found with a cup of hot tea in hand and chatting about Jesus or something homeschool related with an old friend or new acquaintance.

Homeschooling through highschool can seem like an overwhelming task!  Hear Amy's advice and tips on how to educate your teenager through the high school years. You can do it!

Amy Punkay has been homeschooling for 17 years.  She has graduated three of her children from high school and has just recently celebrated her oldest daughter's graduation from LSU.  Amy is the mother of 6 children and has lived most of her life in Baton Rouge.  She and her family attend Community Bible Church.
