What is the Beta Club?

The National Beta Club promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students in grades 4th – 12th.

Achievement – Recognizing and honoring high academic achievement

Character – Preparing young people for life and empowering them to be successful

Leadership – Developing the leaders of tomorrow

Service – Demonstrating our motto: Let Us Lead by Serving Others


Who qualifies for membership in the CHEF of Baton Rouge Senior Beta Club?

  • Membership in CHEF of Baton Rouge is required to be a part of the CHEF of Baton Rouge Senior Beta Club
  • Senior Beta Club is for 9th–12th graders 
  • The candidate for membership must be working at or above grade level
  • The candidate for membership must exemplify academic achievement
  • The candidate for membership must display high moral character

What are the requirements to maintain membership in the CHEF of Baton Rouge Senior Beta Club?

  • Senior Beta members must continue to meet all of the qualifications for membership in the CHEF of Baton Rouge Senior Beta Club.
  • Senior Beta members must hold to the highest academic, service, leadership, and character standards.
  • Each member must attend at least six of the eight scheduled monthly meetings.
  • Each member must complete community service hours as follows:
    • Each member must participate in at least one club-sponsored service project per semester.  
    • Each Beta member is required to complete 20 or more hours of community service per year. Half of them are due during each semester.
    • Each service year begins on May 1
    • Ten or more hours are due in December 
    • Ten or more hours are due in April
    • Service hours forms must be filled out completely by the student and service project leader.
    • Service hours cannot be counted when doing time with immediate family.
    • Service hours are only to be considered during the duration of CHEF of Baton Rouge Beta Club membership. Existing members may begin earning service hours on May 1.
  • All members must prioritize participation in Beta Club.  Members must be committed to participation in club meetings and activities.  Each person in the club plays an important role!

What are some of the opportunities afforded to National Beta Club members?

  • Members have the opportunity to compete with other Beta Clubs at the annual conventions.
    • State Senior Beta Convention is typically held in Baton Rouge at the River Center or the Cajun Dome in Laffayette 
    • All participants who place at the state level have the opportunity to advance to National Convention, which is held in June. (see calendar for specific dates)
  • Members have the opportunity to compete with other National Beta Club members for scholarships
  • Members have the opportunity to participate in National Beta Club leadership events.

When and where are CHEF of Baton Rouge Junior Beta Club meetings held?

  • Monthly meetings for the 2023 – 2024 school year will take place at The Jones Creek Library once a month on a Thursday as noted on the calendar.
  • Additional days may be needed to work on group competitions as district day/convention approaches.

What are the dues for members?

  • Fees for returning members are $50
  • Fees for new members are $70 (this includes the Beta Club Pin and Certificate from National Beta)
