Mrs. Deborah Freeman To All Instructors

Hello, I’m Deborah Freeman and I have been teaching communications classes and directing theatrical productions for years and years, starting out as a speech teacher at the college level after graduating from Oklahoma State University with a master’s degree. My undergrad degree is in Psychology, and after moving to Nebraska, I gained secondary teaching certification in English/Language Arts. Currently, I teach dual credit at the Lancaster Link, and I’ve really enjoyed getting to know the students, parents, and administration for this group.

My husband and I met in Conroe, TX where he grew up and where I was serving a church as their Christian Education Director (teaching and overseeing nurture for infants through adults). We left Texas, however, and lived in Albuquerque, NM and Madison, WI before landing in Lincoln NE where we have settled for the past 20 years. We have a daughter, married and living in New Jersey with 3 children and a son, married and living in Lincoln. My husband is an entrepreneur who developed both Nature’s variety and Nature’s Logic pet foods. Together, we serve our church as home group leaders. My main hobby and mental health activity is horseback riding. I own one horse and I would love to share him with you!

In Madison, I served as Drama Ministry Coordinator at our church; in Lincoln, since 2008, I’ve been teaching public speaking, communication skills, and theatre arts at Southeast Community College; I’ve also been a communications department adjunct at times at Nebraska Wesleyan. I enjoyed directing plays and musicals at Lincoln Christian School for @14 years. Now at Lancaster Link, I lead a fun drama club each Tuesday 4:30pm-5:30pm—students are welcome to come try it out; it’s not a registration/fee-based activity, it’s just fun!

I’m blessed to be able to teach my passions: 1) to equip young people with the skills and awareness they need to use effective communication skills in their personal, professional, Christian, and community lives (SPCH 1090 & SPCH 1110); 2) to introduce students to the wonderful world of theatre (THEA1010). When led well, it reminds me of the design for the body of Christ described in Romans 12:3-8—the process and production of a stage production is an amazing laboratory for self-discovery, skill-building, practicing teamwork, discipline, responsibility, creativity, empathy for others, and for honoring God for the unique gifts given to each of us.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to help students develop lifelong skills as they learn how to successfully manage college level courses.
