Independent Homeschool Info
Independent Home School
(Sometimes referred to as "LEA")
This is one of the common options for homeschooling in Tennessee. In this option, you register your child with the local school board. You choose your own curriculum, but you must make an annual report to the school board stating that you fulfilled the 180 days/4 hours per day requirement. You must register your child annually. To register with your local school board, please contact one of the offices below. Note: Your child is not required to attend school until age 6.

What forms do I need to fill out to do this?
You must fill out the Notice of Intent to Homeschool, and fill out a Homeschool Student Attendance Form yearly. You will NOT have to list the specific curriculum, you merely indicate the subjects that will be taught. The Attendance form simply asks you to check mark the days on which you taught. You need to teach 180 days of your choosing between July 1 and June 30, 4 hours per day.
You can find additional information about Independent Home School and copies of these forms at the TN Dept. of Education website: https://www.tn.gov/education/school-options/home-schooling-in-tn.html
