E-TEAM Academy of Arts
Academy of Arts is a weeklong drama seminar conducted here in Evansville through the production ministry of The Academy of Arts, a ministry based out of Taylors, SC. The Academy of Arts staff will be working with our students for a full week, teaching classes on stage make-up, lighting, set construction, costume building and acting. The week will culminate in an outstanding dramatic production open to the public in which the students of our homeschool group will have had their hands in every aspect.
No previous experience is necessary! Whether your child loves to be center stage or prefers to work behind-the-scenes, we have a place for EVERYONE in our group. Students learn to work together as a team, build their confidence, develop new skills including hands-on work such as sewing and construction, grow spiritually in their relationship with Jesus, increase their public speaking skills, step outside their comfort zone in a supportive environment, make new and lasting friendships and much, much more.
Our 2018 production will include two different plays! Our elementary students, ages 6-11, will perform a musical, The Ant and the Grasshopper. Elementary students will attend Drama Seminar from 8:45 am to 12:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Performance will be on Friday evening. Students should bring a sack lunch with them each day.
Ages 12-19 will perform a historical drama, No Place To Flee, which takes place in the 1930's and follows the lives of three fearless men and their families who chose to take a stand against the horrors of communism. They gave everything so that their posterity might breathe the sweet air of freedom. These students will attend Drama Seminar from 8:45 am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday. They will also attend a Thursday evening rehearsal and they will be helping back stage with the elementary cast for The Ant and the Grasshopper on Friday evening. No Place To Flee will be performed on Saturday afternoon. All parents and students are encouraged to attend both performances and invite family, friends, neighbors to attend both plays. Tickets will be sold for $8 for adults and $4 for children, these tickets INCLUDE BOTH PLAYS. Two plays for the price of one!
Parents play a supportive role by supervising students, making meals for The Academy staff members, provide host homes for The Academy staff members, cleaning the church, prayer, helping with costumes, serving dinner to cast members, running errands, greeting guests before performance, taking tickets, providing cookies for Cookie Reception . . . to name a few. A team of 6 staff members from The Academy will be conducting the entire Drama Seminar from directing the play to providing instruction in stage makeup, prop and stage construction to chapel. There are many ways that moms and dads can get plugged in to serve during the Drama Seminar Week. All details concerning the week will be covered at a Parent Meeting.
Homeschool students ages 6 thru 19 years old are encouraged to particpate in this life changing week. Tuition for ages 6-11 years is $125; Tuition for ages 12 and up is $175. 50% discount is offered to the 3rd sibling and down in the same family after the tuition for the two older siblings has been paid. HALF OF TUITION is due at Group Auditions and the REMAINING BALANCE is due at the Read Through (one week before Drama Seminar). Fundraising opportunities are available for families who desire to reduce the tuition cost for their family. Group auditions and casting will be conducted by The Academy of Arts staff members here in Evansville on a date/time TBA. Our Drama Seminar will be held here in Evansville on Feb. 26 to March 3, 2018. Auditions, Read Through (Read Through will be held one week prior to Drama Seminar) and Drama Seminar will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at the corner of Boonville New Harmony Rd. and Darmstadt Rd. in Evansville. Plans for our 2018 production are already in the works!
To encourage fellowship, unity and friendship, our group will also meet several times before the Drama Seminar Week. In the past we have done a Movie Night with popcorn, a pot luck with a campfire, a car wash (to help raise funds for The Academy) and a mini golf/lazer tag night at Bob Walther's. These are not mandatory but it's a fun way for all the kids to develop relationships with each other before the Drama Seminar Week.
