Legal Requirements; How to begin to home school in the state of Florida
As in many states, there are legal requirements for home educating your children in the state of Florida. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) does a good job of highlighting the requirements in this document they created. At the very bottom of the document there is a direct link to the HSLDA which describes who they are and what they do.
Membership in HSLDA is separate from membership in ARCH Angels of South Florida, as they are entirely different entities. You do not need to be a member of HSLDA to join ARCH Angels, but many families do choose to join HSLDA.
Some families also join the Florida Parent Educators Association (FPEA). Again, this group has no bearing on your membership to ARCH Angels, but annually (usually during the summer) as a courtesy to our members, we do provide the option of signing up through ARCH Angels (for an additional fee) in order to pass along the group discount the FPEA offers us. It is recommended that you go the the section on the FPEA website entitled "starting point" for their free download, which provides another look and explanation of the legal requirements for home schooling in Florida.
