This workshop is best for parents of rising 7th-8th graders, who need these topics on your radar for the coming years.  Parents of older students are welcome as well.  This meeting is not for intended for personal counseling, but personal questions often lead to worthwhile discussions.

Cost:  Free for SMICA families; non-SMICA $15

  • You and your spouse as guidance counselors 
  • Planning your teen’s Spiritual, Academic and Extracurricular Course of Study and keeping some flexibility 
  • What is a transcript and what does it look like? 
  • Non-traditional course work and course titles/transcript 
  • Elements of an Excellent Driver Education Program; 
  • Your Teen and Work- Child Labor Laws in Alabama 
  • Recordkeeping and Reporting; NCAA Eligibility for Athletes 
  • Testing options for 8th-10th grade: Why test, Types of tests and What to Take (or not) Achievement testing, PSAT 8-9, PSAT10, PreACT 
  • Your student’s online presence
