FAQS

Participation and Expectations

Question

What is the expected level of participation?

Answer

Our Wednesday program Requires your full participation.

This means you are available to teach or assist in at least 2 classes each Wednesday. With the possibility to sub in a 3rd class if we need the extra hands.

Question

Why don't you allow drop-offs? Why do parents have to stay all day?

Answer

Parental participation at BBA is mandatory. If your child is at BBA, then you must be too. Our program is truly a “cooperative effort.” As homeschoolers, we parents are the primary teachers of our children, and this responsibility does not end with enrichment classes.

Occasionally, we all could use the opportunity of dropping off our children while we attend to other business. Certain accommodations can be made, so please just maintain open and honest communication and we can all help when needed.

Structure and Function

Question

What subjects does BBA offer?

Answer

We offer a variety of classes for each age group. Our Wednesday program currently has 17 classes.

Subjects we teach on Wednesday are purely enrichment. meaning we do not do ELA or Math.

We offer subjects in Sciences, Humanities, Social Studies, and Physical Education.

Question

What activities does BBA offer its members?

Answer

We try to host "Moms night In's or Outs twice a semester or more. As well as trips with classes or groups. such as Pottery and Putt-Putt.

We host a Showcase at the end of the year as well as Friends Giving in the fall.

In the past we have done Dances, Winter Parties, Movie and Game nights.

Question

What does the Schedule look like for a Typical Wednesday?

Answer

We do an assembly on the first Wednesday of each month which starts with the kids doing a 100% optional (No pressure) devotional at the church that hosts us.

While the parents are given information about the upcoming events as well as get their feedback on past events.

We have a muffin or waffle breakfast and then classes after the Assembly is over.

The regular Wednesdays everyone arrives by 9:15am and classes begin at 9:35am and continue with 2 periods till lunch at 11:20. Classes resume at 12:20 and continue on until 2:10. Then we clean the buildings and lock up.

Question

How are classes divided? Since we homeschool, how do I know what “grade” my child is in?

Answer

Classes are divided by age as of September 1, We do it this way because homeschooling families do not follow traditional schooling ways, so we don't want to cause issues by having a child who is 7 but doing 5th grade work to be in a class with 10 year old. Educationally they may be on the same level but emotionally, dexterity, and maturity wise they are not.

Pre k ages are 2 to 5

Kinder is 4 to 6 year old - MUST be potty trained at this point.

Little's are from 6 to 8

Mids are 9 to 11

Bigs are 12 to 17 year old.

We allow a sort of "Transition" for the Kinder kids into the Little's by allowing them to take 1 or 2 classes with them. this is usually done at the age of 6 to help them go from a less structured class to a class that requires them to sit and listen. As well as for the Mids they are allowed preferably the older 11 year old to take the Bigs classes. we just ask that the parents read and understand the descriptions well before signing up. As the materials covered may not be suitable for all ages.

We do not allow the Bigs to go down into the Mids, nor the Mids into the Littles.

Question

What exactly is done in the classes? Is it lecture format or projects, etc.?

Answer

For the Bigs (12+ ages) - classes are reserved for group activities, such as discussion, debate, experiments, labs, projects, re-enactments and simulations. Classes enrich their educational journey. Occasionally homework is given and expected of them to do and return.

Mids (9-11) Are also group activities, experiments, projects, etc. Like the Bigs just with a more laid back feeling.

Little's (6-8) classes involve mostly hands-on activities because lecture and discussion would bore young children. These classes are enrichment, and the activities supplement academics at home.

K classes are all hands on crafting, stories, play learning. With plenty of fresh air and wiggles.

Pre-K classes contain a lot of open ended play, with some circle time, outdoor play, singing, stories, and naps.

Question

Answer

The cost varies by family size.

We do a 150$ registration fee. This covers all our Admin overhead costs Such as Utilities and day to day admin supplies. (BBA and its board and members make 0$ here. We use 100% of all incoming fees and donations for BBA and its programs.

a 35$ Child fee is assessed per child. This covers the supplies we keep on had for all members to use. Such as papers, paints, pencils, etc.

a Class Fee is occasionally charged to cover any class specific supplies. An example would be our Life skills class charging an additional 15$ per signed up child.. This covered each child receiving survival equipment, first aid supplies, and more.

We keep our cost low by asking all families to Volunteer at, at least 2 events we host throughout the year.

Question

What does the application process look like?

Answer

When we are enrolling we issues out a simple digital form for everyone to fill out. This form we ask a few simple questions that help us get to know you.

IF selected we send you an email and we schedule an interview. We prefer to meet you and your child at this interview.

The next step if your officially selected to join BBA we do a walk-through at BBA for you to see the space to have you child sit into a class (If desired) and to ask any questions you may have had after the interview.

After that we send you a Registration form where you complete that and a Background check, join our private Facebook group and start classes in August.
