Welcome to the SCOPE Homeschool Co-op!

Our weekly classes are on Mondays between 9:00 and 4:30 (the last set of classes run from 3:30-4:30). 

Who We Are and FAQs

SCOPE is a Christian Homeschool Co-op for Grades 1-12 serving families throughout the St. Croix Valley and beyond.  We are a group of homeschool families seeking to enhance our home education experience through the opportunities and support of a Christian cooperative.  It is our desire to be a valuable asset to new and continuing home educators alike.

What We Believe:

Leaders and teachers who are part of our organization uphold a Biblical Christian worldview.  A Biblical worldview includes the belief that the Bible is the total accurate book that God has given us to teach us about who He is and who we are.  The Bible, in concert with the Holy Spirit, guides and empowers us to live lives pleasing to God.

Our History: 

Until the spring of 2013, we were known as H.A.T.C.H (Hudson Area Teaching Christian Homes). Because our co-op now meets in Lakeland, Minnesota, the name has been changed to reflect the broader St. Croix Valley area that is being served.  

We currently serve grades 1-12.  

How long are classes?
Most classes meet for one hour for two semesters. However, our upper level Science classes meet for 90 minutes.  There are a few classes that are just one semester long (Speech, Drama, Government, Economics).

How much do classes cost?
One semester, 1 hour-long classes are $90. Two semester (full year), 1 hour-long classes are $180. The average cost is $6 per hour per student.

High School Science classes are two semester (full year), 90-minute classes are $265. The average cost per 90 minutes is $9 or less per student.

High School Writing classes are two semesters (full year) and 1 hour. They have a higher tuition due to the extra time the teacher spends correcting papers, etc. The tuition for Jr. High and Senior High Writing is $230.  The average cost per 60 minutes is $9 or less per student.

There may be supply fees added to classes based on materials and/or copies the teacher needs to purchase for the class.

Fees

2021-2022 SCOPE Year

All courses offered are subject to minimum and maximum class size requirements that are set forth by each individual teacher.  It is advisable to register early, not only to assure your child's spot in the class, but also to avoid the risk that the class will be cancelled due to low enrollment.

Membership Fee - A $60.00 per year per family registration fee is paid to SCOPE.

Early Bird Registration - If Membership Fees are paid by May 31st (online or mailed and postmarked by that date) the discount Membership Fee is $50.

This non-refundable payment covers the cost of registration, website and administrative fees.  

Volunteer Deposit - There is $80 Volunteer deposit per family per year that is paid to SCOPE and due with your registration fee. If you complete your Volunteer Requirement for the year (6 hours), your deposit will be refunded at the end of the year.

The Membership Fee and Volunteer Deposit are the only fees that can paid online. Teacher Payments CANNOT be paid online. You can make the Membership Fee and Volunteer Deposit payments online through this website or they can be mailed in to SCOPE, PO Box 814, Hudson, WI  54016.

Returning Members - watch your email for an invoice of the amount to pay. Once you pay this invoice online, your account will be activated within 24 hours. 

New Members - If you are a new member, choose “Join”. You will then be directed to fill out your information to create your “Family Account” on the website and asked to pay the Membership Fee and Volunteer Deposit. If you pay online, your membership will be activate in 24-48 hours. If you mail in your payment, your membership will be activated once your check has been deposited and clears our account. Once your Membership is activated, you will be able to register for classes.

There are Required Forms that you need to complete These can be printed from the website (under ”Required Forms”). All Forms may mailed or dropped off during our annual Information Night held at Valley Baptist Church, typically held in July. ALL FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND TURNED IN TO THE REGISTRAR BEFORE YOUR STUDENT CAN ATTEND CLASSES!

Family Service Commitment/Volunteer Deposit –  As previously stated, there is an $80 Volunteer Deposit per family per year that is paid to SCOPE and due with your registration fee. Each family is asked to volunteer 6 hours each school year.  We try to make it as easy as possible for families to fulfill their obligation. Our primary needs our setting up and cleaning up on Mondays in order for us to hold class. These duities are typically done by students. We have 2 Appreciation Events and 2 Family Nights each year that also require volunteers and many of these duties can be done by students as well. The majority of our volunteer time can be done by donating food items for our varoius events. We do not assign you volunteer duties, but allow you to pick your volunteer time based on what works for your family. We also have a "Buyout Option" which allows you to surrender your deposit at the beginning of the year and then you do not have to fulfill the 6 hours. However, even if you choose the Buy Out Option, you are still required to donate items for our Appreciation Events. Families that fulfill their 6 hour requirement will receive their deposit back at the end of the year. Families that fail to complete their volunteer hours will not be reimbursed.

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for both adults and students throughout the SCOPE year. There will be a SignUp link for volunteer times via the SCOPE website – please watch for more information from our volunteer coordinator.  See SCOPE Family Handbook for specific information.

Building Usage Fee – Each family pays $35 per year (paid to Valley Baptist) at/by the Mandatory Orientation Meeting (or before).  It is given to the church as an in-kind donation for allowing us to use their facility each week. This fee replaces our previous mandatory clean-up day.  Valley Baptist does not charge SCOPE rent, but it is our desire to show them how thankful we are that they allow us to use their building, so we give them this in-kind donation as a token of our appreciation. No additional time for cleaning or other projects is required.

All tuition and supply fees will be made payable to individual teachers but mailed to or submitted to SCOPE! Our Annual Registration and Information Night (typically held in July at Valley Baptist Church) is a great time to turn in all your forms and fees.
