Textbook: Apologia : Exploring Creation with Physical Science 2nd Edition
This course is designed to be the last science course the student takes before high school biology. It is generally recommended as an 8th grade course, and 7th grade math is a prerequisite. If your student was recently in public school or struggled with 7th grade math, he or she might need to wait until 9th grade to use it. A 7th grade student who excels in math might be able to take this course with math help. The course discusses such topics as the atmosphere, the hydrosphere, weather, the structure of the earth, environmentalism, and the physics of motion, Newton’s Laws, gravity, and astrophysics. The author addresses the myths generated by the hysterical environmentalist movement. There are many hands- on experiments to do, using household chemicals and supplies. It is an excellent course for preparing the student to take a college-prep high school science curriculum. *The focus will be on the experiments during the hour together. All other homework, tests, reading, etc. will be done at home. * (Families interested in testing/grading can contact the instructor individually). This course will use the second edition of the book. This course will run the entire year, but families must register for the second half. This course will cover 1 module of the book every 2 weeks. STUDENTS MUST READ THE FIRST MODULE PRIOR TO THE FIRST CLASS. Parents will test students; instructor is available to work families privately who need more support. This is Christy’s eleventh year teaching with FAF and has been home schooling for 13 years. She has a strong science background and has taught this course previously.
