Spelling Bee

ATTENTION ALL SPELLERS...

Announcing the 2023 Pima County Homeschool Spelling Bee, sponsored by CHET-SE!

When: Monday, January 23, 2023

Where:   Saguaro Canyon Church, 10111 E Old Spanish Trail, Tucson, AZ 

The Pima County Homeschool Spelling Bee is open to all homeschoolers in Pima County who meet eligibility requirements:

*The Speller must NOT have reached his/her 15th birthday on or before August 31, 2022.

*The Speller must NOT pass beyond 8th grade on or before August 31, 2022.

*The Speller must not have repeated any grade for the purpose of extending spelling bee eligibility.

*Additional eligibility requirements are listed in the official spelling bee rules which will be emailed to each Speller upon registration. Please review these rules to ensure that your child is eligible to participate.

*Virtual charter school students are not eligible for the homeschool spelling bee, since they are not legally classified by the state of Arizona as homeschooled students.

The winner of the Homeschool Spelling Bee will advance to the Pima County Spelling Bee, held in February.

In addition to the Spelling Bee, there will also be a Honey Bee for students in Kindergarten through 4th grade. This is for younger children who would like the experience of participating in a spelling bee, but don't want to compete with the "big kids." The Honey Bee winner may advance to the Official Spelling Bee, if desired. Participants must be in at least Kindergarten.

 

Here is the schedule for the day:

     1:15 Check in for Honey Bee

     1:30 Honey Bee begins

     2:45 Check in for Spelling Bee

     3:00 Spelling Bee begins

There will be refreshments served between the bees (2:30 - 3:00). When you register your child, please indicate if you can bring a snack for the refreshment table (cookies, fruit, or savory snack). Water will be provided.


If your child is in Kindergarten through 4th grade, you may register for either the Honey Bee or the Spelling Bee. Students in 5th - 8th grades must register for the Spelling Bee. When signing up, please indicate your child's birthdate and grade. When your registration is received, I will email you a list of study words and a copy of the spelling bee rules.

The DEADLINE for registration is January 16, 2023. The sooner you register, the sooner students can start practicing!

The COST for registration is $5.00 per student.
