Columbia Homeschool Community is Central Maryland’s oldest, inclusive homeschool support group. We are registered as a not-for profit, non-stock Maryland corporation.
CHC warmly welcomes homeschool families throughout Maryland, without regard to race, religion, political philosophy, or educational approach. CHC is currently comprised of about 200 families and approximately 480 children.
There are no age requirements for CHC and you don't have to be registered as a homeschooler with your local board of education yet to join. So, whether you are a novice looking for support and activities; a veteran homeschooler with years of experience and teens; or somebody who is homeschool-curious and hoping to learn about homeschooling in Maryland before they take the plunge--you'll find a comfortable, supportive, active, and friendly home at CHC.
Manfred Smith, the founder of the Maryland Home Educators' Association, described CHC as Maryland's most active, organized, and successful homeschool support group.
How do we do it? We share a deep commitment to our mission of providing homeschool enrichment, socialization development, support, and information.
CHC and its members offer valuable opportunities for homeschool enrichment through activities, field trips, special interest classes, and programs including the Science Fair, Art Show, Field Day, Art Education Tours, Holiday Gala, and Music Appreciation Series.
Through our popular CHAP (Columbia Homeschool AP) Co-op, our high schoolers complete AP-syllabus approved coursework, led by qualified instructors, many experts in their field!
At CHC, we help our students develop interpersonal and socialization skills through regular interaction with their peers. With this in mind, CHC and its members regularly sponsor exciting activities and programs providing opportunities to develop and practice social skills for homeschooled children and their parents. CHC members never worry about "THE SOCIALIZATION ISSUE" - we are too busy socializing at our playgroups and the many and varied CHC events offered each year, especially our monthly family events.
Our members are dedicated to enhancing and supporting your homeschool journey. Through our many public Meet n Greets, Visiting Days, and seminars, you can learn all about the ins and outs of homeschooling in Maryland. Come learn about homeschooling resources, rules and regulations, activities, styles, programs, events, and opportunities. If you like what you see, join us and participate in our many programs, field trips, co-op classes, community service projects, and more!
