Information can be found at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10.The PSAT is created by the College Board but homeschooled students usually register through their local high school. Some support groups or co-ops do offer PSAT testing to their members. Most schools do not charge for the test but you will need to contact their guidance office now because they order the test in the spring or summer. Each school has their own process. You may be able to find a private school that will allow your student to take the test with their students. Each school sets their policies and decides if they will accept a homeschooled student to be tested. The test is usually administered on the third Wednesday of October, but there is an alternate and Saturday test option. I don't know any schools that use the Saturday or alternate test day so if you want to use one of those options, you will have to do some research. The test is generally administered in 10th grade as a practice test and 11th grade to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship (NMS). Some students take the test in other grades to qualify for programs like Duke TIP and SC Junior Scholars. If for some reason your student is not able to take the PSAT, SAT test scores can often be used. One test prep program actually recommends that students take the SAT in the fall before they take the PSAT! I don't know if that is wise or not. Dates and deadlines can be found at https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-nmsqt-psat-10/k12-educators/psat-nmsqt-dates. June 28th is an important deadline for ordering so if you have not contacted your school, you may want to do that today.
