2009 CHEACT Conference Speakers
Jessica Hulcy, co-author of KONOS Character Curriculum, the first homeschool curriculum written for homeschool by home schoolers in 1984, will delight you with her sense of humor and refreshing openness about her home school experiences. She will encourage us to enjoy our children and to educate them in a way that builds love and togetherness in our families, while teaching to the head and heart of each child.
Jessica is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, has done post-graduate work at Texas A& M at Commerce, speaks nationally on a variety of public education and home school topics, writes curriculum for KONOS, contributes articles to several homeschool magazines, has taught for 31 years with 24 of those years spent homeschooling her four boys ages 32, 28, 25, and 20, lives with her husband Wade on 75 acres north of Dallas.
She and Wade have recently started a new business called HomeSchoolMentor.com designed to train the next generation of homeschoolers how to teach through instruction and lesson planning online.
Jordan Hulcy is a 30-year-old homeschool graduate raised as a guinea pig on the KONOS unit approach by his parents, Wade and Jessica Hulcy. Throughout high school Jordan was active in numerous team sports, the Company of Dallas Ballet, scouting, politics, shipping and selling for KONOS, teaching a homeschool PE class, as well as traveling extensively in the US and Europe for mission work and pleasure. After graduating from Texas A&M at Commerce with a double major in history and English and a minor in art history and a summer spent abroad studying at Oxford University in England, he taught, coached, and served as athletic director for four years in the private school sector while simultaneously serving as a church youth group director. In 2003 Jordan took over the daily running of KONOS Inc. where he regularly listens to the concerns, desires, and aspirations of home schooling moms.
To give you a glimpse of the young man that is coming to stand in for his mom, here is a portion of Jordan's comments posted on the family's Caring Bridge journal page on Wednesday, June 3:
When I arrived in NC on the 20th of May, 2 weeks ago, I was beat. I was off my game and the seat of my pants were ripped about 6 inches. As I sat in the hotel room sewing up my pants, just like mom had taught me, I was about to just break down and cry. Then all of the sudden a song came over me that is a Bible verse Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded You, be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified do not be discouraged for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go."
I felt like there was one set of foot prints in the sand right then and that God was telling me that "I have chosen you! You have been trained and taught and mentored by two people whom i call my own. You are the right man for the job. It is your time now!"
Needless to say the rest of the weekend was a success!!
If you are in my generation and you are reading this. Our time to step up is now. Our time to effect people for the cause of Christ is now. Our time to be involved in our church ministries is now. Out time to recover our country for Christian liberties is now.
Wade Hulcy, a 24-year veteran of homeschooling, father of four sons, a sixteen-year board member of Texas Home School Coalition, and nineteen-year president and CEO of KONOS, Inc., began as a teacher/coach in the urban schools of Dallas, TX where he taught for five years before being selected for the Principal’s program. Wade, however, claims his greatest fame is in marrying his first-grade sweetheart and co-author of KONOS Curriculum, Jessica Hulcy!
Wade speaks nationally to men about his passion of building families and training fathers to take on Biblical leadership in their families. Yet, through talking to homeschool moms everyday, Wade knows the heart of the homeschool moms as well…their joys and frustrations. A great encourager, Wade motivates mothers to strive to be excellent teachers and to make their homeschools fun and exciting. You’ll laugh and cry as this transparent veteran speaks from his heart to yours.
