The Christian Homeschoolers of Castle Rock was founded in 1998 under the name "Castle Rock Christian Homeschoolers." The group was formed by Mark and Amber Baughman for the purpose of honoring Christ by encouraging families in homeschooling and for the purpose of encouraging and teaching homeschool moms to be godly wives, moms, friends and teachers in the Lord.
The group's mission was modeled after Deuteronomy 6:4-9, which states: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.”
The Baughmans led the group for three years. Since that time, the group has been led by godly individuals with the same vision and purpose as originally stated. Although leadership changes, the mission for our group does not change. We desire to teach our children to be godly followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and for our homes to be conductors of His love.
The CHOCR Board of Directors at this time are:
Dana Bonham - Meetings Administrator
Renée Gotcher - Web Site & Memberships Administrator
Teresa Wilder - Treasurer
Our group is composed of families home educating their children in diverse methods, but all imparting the truths of the Word of God. We are privileged to live in Douglas County, Colorado, where there are numerous and creative ways to educate our children at the academic level. Our county leaders are favorable to homeschoolers, for which we are so grateful. It is our prayer that we will continue to find favor with God and man.
