And announcing:

Since 2013, professional Christian theatre company Sight & Sound has offered a training program for Christian performers. Each year, the Conservatory provides 10 students with discipleship and instruction in singing, dancing and acting, along with the opportunity to practice these skills in their productions.

CounterACT director Georgianna Mills is thrilled to announce that she has been selected to be a student at the Conservatory in 2015. She will be moving to Pennsylvania in January for the yearlong program before returning to CounterACT in 2016. There are rumors of a 2015 CounterACT production during her two-week summer break, but nothing has been determined yet. Stay tuned! :)

"Binding Ties," the life story of Amy Carmichael.

Reclaiming the Dramatic Arts for Christ

Beginning in 2010, a small group of dedicated home schooled young people banded together under the direction of home school graduate, Georgianna Mills, in an effort to counter the culture crisis. It was, and is, CounterACT's goal to use thought-provoking Christian dramas to minister to the Body of Christ by showing them a picture of what He can do in their lives. CounterACT's mission statement is embodied in the words of Alvin Brandt:

"Here the purpose is not to entertain, although many such plays are entertaining, but to relate the church's teachings to the drama of everyday living."

Since its small beginnings in 2010, the drama ministry of CounterACT has grown by leaps and bounds! Today we've got a lot going on, and we want to keep you informed! Whether you were a member of one of our sell-out crowds for "Meet Me at Luigi's" in 2012, or "Club Family"; or you were inspired by the dramatic retelling of George Muller's life story, "So Many Miracles" November 2013, or "Binding Ties" about the life of Amy Carmichael which just closed in August of 2014; or you are looking for information about our current offerings; "The Disappearing Youth Choir" November 2014, or NarrowWay's presentation of "Sovereign Choice", the life and testimony of Lady Jane Gray in January 2015; or you just want to be involved with the annual Talent Showcase every year, we want to make sure you don't miss a thing!

As you can see the drama ministry of CounterACT is growing to encompass several different styles of theatre:

The Annual Performing Arts Expo exists to connect those within the home school community with local groups offering enrichment opportunities to home educated students.

The Home School Revue is a vital part of the annual Performing Arts Expo, an event held in April of each year. The Revue provides an opportunity for home schooled individuals to share their gifts with others in (and out) of the home school community. Groups who offer performing arts opportunities to home educated students also perform during the program, which gives students and parents looking for enrichment opportunities a chance to familiarize themselves with what each group has to offer.

The annual Home School Revue is sponsored by the James River Home School Foundation, and its goal is two-fold - to 1) give home school students/graduates an opportunity to share their God-given talents with the community, and 2) to give groups that offer extra-curricular activities for home schooled students a platform to perform and promote themselves within the home school community so that parents and students attending can learn of enrichment opportunities.

Contact Georgianna Mills at 804-794-4754 or email VACounterACT@gmail.com for additional information about the CounterACT Drama Ministry and the Performing Arts Expo and Home School Revue and find out how to get involved.
