CONSTITUTION

I.  NAME
The name of the organization shall be called   NICHE - North Irving Christian Home Educators.

II.  MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of NICHE is to glorify God by coming alongside Christian home school families, offering support, social activities and academic guidance and encouragement.

III.  MEMBERSHIP
Membership in NICHE is open to all Christian families who choose to educate their child(ren) at home, either full-time or part-time. We understand the term family to mean one male and one female, joined through legal marriage or any single parent; this applies to parents, grandparents or legal guardians, who have majority custody of one or more minor children. (I Corinthians 7:2)

  • Family must be home schooling at least one of their children aged Kindergarten through 12th grade at least part-time.
  • Using electronic registration by either submitting a Request Membership form or renewing an existing NICHE membership, the person(s) seeking membership affirm that they have read and agree with the NICHE Statement of Faith and have read and will abide by the NICHE Constitution.
  • NICHE requires the receipt of annual dues before approving any membership, whether new or renewing.  Your account will remain 'parked' until such payment has been received by the Board of Directors.
  • Family agrees that the group is a cooperative effort and each family must actively participate in functions of the group either through attendance and/or assistance/leadership for the group to function as a whole.
  • All communications between members for NICHE purposes shall take place on the private NICHE website.  Our families must respect the privacy of all other member families and never distribute, share or sell private, personal information about NICHE or any member for any personal gain, business, service, reference, solicitation or other activity.

IV.  GOVERNMENT AND COMMITTEES
This organization shall be governed by a Board of Directors that will consist of no less than four adults. All Board members musts be: current NICHE members; a veteran home schooler of at least two full years; willing to accept a minimum 2 consecutive year term of service on the Board.  No Board member shall receive any form of compensation, monetary or otherwise, for their service on the Board.

The Board will organize and lead the general meetings and oversee the coordination of group activities.  They shall also appoint a treasurer, who will be responsible to the entire group for the income and expenditures associated with the group’s needs.

V.  CODE OF CONDUCT
Parents are to be responsible for their own behavior and for the behavior of their child(ren) during their attendance at any NICHE activity, with a special understanding that, as a group gathered together, we represent Christ first by our attitudes and actions.  We represent home education to those around us and want to make every effort to ensure that our members and their children present themselves and our group in a positive, responsible and well-mannered way.

VI.  Field Trip Guidelines

~Be prompt.  Arrive at the time requested in your field trip information.  If you are delayed or will not be able to attend, be courteous and contact the GoTo Gal listed for the event, so your delay does not adversely affect the rest of the group adversely.
~Theater Policy - NICHE will no longer be able to request a seating delay for anyone from our group who is late to a show. Prompt arrival is mandatory! Any NICHE member and/or their guest that arrives after our group has been seated by the theater personnel shall be considered late. Any NICHE member and/or their guest that is not able to attend a pre-paid theater event and does not contact the GoTo Gal shall be considered a no-show. Any two (2) late and/or no-shows by a NICHE member and/or their guest to any theater events in one school year will forfeit all remaining pre-paid theater tickets that the NICHE member has purchased for that school year. Said tickets will be disposed of at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
~Respect speakers, tour guides, docents and anyone else associated with the venue you are attending.  Be attentive and quiet while they are speaking.  Precisely follow instructions given to you by these persons.
~Ensure that your children display their best behavior, language and manners.  Intervene immediately if an issue arises and correct the situation or remove a child that is misbehaving.
~Keep your children with you at all times!  If your baby/toddler becomes fussy, please  exit the area so others may listen.  Either take your older child(ren) with  you as you leave, or verbally designate a willing parent within the group who will monitor your remaining child(ren) in your absence.
~PLEASE and THANK YOU are always appreciated and appropriate.  Your GoTo Gal may choose to have a Thank You Card that you can sign at the end of each event to express your gratitude to the venue.
~If you cannot attend a specific event WITH your children, you must have another designated adult in charge of them at the event.  Please confirm with the Coordinator or the GoTo Gal who that person is BEFORE the event takes place.
~As a Christian organization, we seek to glorify God wherever we go.  Please ensure that  your words and actions, as well as those of your children, are respectful and kind.
~Members should dress modestly and neatly when attending NICHE sponsored events.  No clothing displaying offensive or vulgar sayings, slogans, ideas or pictures is acceptable.  Please ensure that you and your children are appropriately and modestly dressed for each event.
~Should you ever have a problem at any NICHE sponsored event because of the program or event presented or caused by anyone in association with that venue, please contact the NICHE Board immediately.  It is the Board’s responsibility to advocate for our members and we will do so on your behalf.
~In the event there is a conflict amongst members or their children at any NICHE sponsored event, we urge you to follow  God‘s word:  Matthew 18:15 "If your brother sins against you, go and show him his fault, just between the two of you. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.  But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that 'every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.'  If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.”   Conflicts should be handled respectfully, face to face,  and in a timely manner.  If you cannot resolve an issue in this manner, please come to the Board of Directors for assistance.  Please do not gossip with others in the group about the issue.

VII.  PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY/LIABILITY
When I/We sign the membership form, I/We accept full responsibility for myself and my child(ren) and any damages caused by myself or my child(ren) or any guest under my charge at any NICHE sponsored event.  I/We will assume financial responsibility for damages incurred by us.

VIII.  NICHE LIABILITY
NICHE, it’s Board of Directors and members, specifically disclaim all responsibility for any liability, loss, injury or risk which is incurred as a direct or indirect result from participating in any NICHE sponsored event.  Parents/Guardians are to be held fully and completely responsible for themselves, their children and their actions therein.

IX.  EXECUTION AND AMENDMENT
This constitution shall become effective upon the approval by each member of the Board of Directors and will not be amended between August 1st and May 31st of any given year without a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the members present at any general meeting, provided that written notice of the proposed  amendment is given to all members at least one week prior to the meeting date.
