TENNIS REVIEW

The FEAST Tennis Team had an incredible season despite getting a late start. The FEAST Tennis Team was jumpstarted by coach/coordinator, Dr. Sue Berry. Mr. Andy Murillo provided instruction and coaching for the tennis team. Both the MS and HS teams competed well and won many team and individual awards. Joshua Chacko and Grace Berry served as team captains. Congratulations to both the middle and high school teams for playing exceptionally well in the tournaments.

The FEAST Middle School Tennis Team had only three athletes, but had a strong showing in two tournaments, Incarnate Word and ISAL. The team played remarkably well in both. In the Incarnate Word tournament, both Michael Chacko and Gracie Doctor won the consolation draw. At the ISAL tournament, Gracie Doctor made a strong showing in the B division. Michael Chacko won two matches, eventually losing in the semifinals of the B division. Luke Berry was the runner up of the A division.

In its first season of reinstatement, after laying dormant for several years, the FEAST High School Tennis Team made an amazing debut. At the TCAL State Tournament held at Newk’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, TX, FEAST captured 1st place Gold Division and 2nd place Silver Division.  In the Silver Boys Division, Nathan Doctor won 2nd place, while David Chacko captured 1st place in the Singles Division.  Both David and Nathan teamed up in doubles and won the Silver Division Doubles. In the Gold Division, Grace Berry won the Gold Girls Division singles. Grace Berry and Lizzy Williams captured 1st place in the Gold Division Doubles. In the Gold Boys Singles Division, Joshua Chacko was runner up, while Daniel Berry won the tournament. Daniel Berry and Joshua Chacko won the Gold Boys Doubles.

Both middle school and high school had a marvelous season. Many thanks go out to Sue Berry for being the coordinator of FEAST Tennis and making this season successful. If any middle or high school athletes are interested in competitive tennis and would like to participate next year, please contact Sue at susanmberry@aol.com. Tryouts will tentatively be held in January 2012.
