Additional Information

Planet Homeschool’s Lead Volunteers have finalized the 2020-2021 class schedule, and we have some important updates to share with you:

The PHS Lead Volunteers made the difficult decision to make the 2020 Fall Semester an all-online semester after much discussion. We have selected classes that will work well as online classes, taught by popular PHS instructors with proven track records of teaching effectively online.

We are also setting a Fall Semester registration deadline of Wednesday, July 22, 2020. We’ve found that allowing registration to stretch until the last minute is extremely hard on teachers, families, and Lead Volunteers. This change will allow teachers and families to go into the Fall Semester confident that the classes on their schedule will take place. Classes that have not reached their minimum registration numbers by July 22 will be canceled. (Late registrations will be accepted for all remaining classes.). July 22 is also the last day for members to drop Fall Semester classes and receive a full refund.

As a co-op, we depend on parent-members contributing to the co-op as volunteers. With our fall semester going online, you may be wondering how you will be able to volunteer since we won’t have parent monitor slots available. There are still many fun and rewarding ways for you to contribute and sustain our co-op community through this challenging time. More information about volunteering opportunities will be posted to the PHS Member Forum.

We understand that the news that PHS is going online in the fall is disappointing, but the PHS Lead Volunteers believe this is the best solution available at this time. We hope that you will work with our co-op to help keep it going for the long haul. Planet Homeschool has been around for twenty years now, giving Twin Cities families a community unlike anything else in the area. We’re the only secular co-op in the region that focuses on older homeschooled students. We offer parents a chance to connect with other parents homeschooling through middle-school and high-school and to learn from each other and build community in ways that can be very hard to find. We connect students with teachers who serve as mentors and inspirations, helping many students find new interests that in some cases have led to careers. And we offer a caring environment where quirky kids who may have had trouble fitting in elsewhere often find friendship and acceptance they haven’t found in other communities.

We think that’s very much worth preserving and protecting, even if our Fall Semester won’t quite look like normal.
