Pajama Day

Add to Your Calendar: 03/01/2019 03/01/2019 America/Chicago Pajama Day

What could be easier? Just don't get dressed and come spend the day at PHS in your comfy pajamas! Pajama Day at Planet Homeschool is this Friday, March 1!

The word “pajamas” was borrowed from the Hindustani pay-jama which was itself borrowed from Persian pay-jameh‎, meaning literally “leg-garment.” These original pajamas were loose lightweight trousers fitted with drawstring waistbands.

Pajamas become a fashion in Britain as sleeping attire for men during the Victorian period, around 1870. Before then, most western men slept in long nightshirts.

In the 1934 romantic comedy “It Happened One Night,” Claudette Colbert’s character borrows a pair of pajamas from Clark Gable‘s character. This scene is sometimes attributed with having started the women’s pajama trend.

Modern-day pajamas are colorful and comfortable combinations of loose-fitting tops and trousers worn by all sexes and ages, chiefly for sleeping but also for lounging, for which they are ideally suited.

(National Pajama Day is held every year on April 16th or the day after taxes are due.)
