Additional Information
The Texas A&M University- Commerce Outdoor Adventure Program offers adventure based learning opportunities for groups to develop as a team, giving them the opportunity to enhance leadership, decision-making, and communication skills through an interactive process. This hands-on approach is designed to help individuals learn from their interaction with others and then apply those principles to their life situations. Please visit http://sites.tamuc.edu/nttb/challenge-course/ for a virtual tour of the course.
This CHEFS sponsered event is open to all homeschooled students going into 6th-12th grades. Parents and older siblings may participate as well. Siblings going into the 5th grade may only participate if they have a 6th-12th grade sibling participating and a parent in attendance with them. Yonger siblings will not be permitted, as the elements are spaced too far apart and the harnesses are not made to fit them.
Our current plan is to do low elements from 9am-11:30a.m. We’ll break for lunch and do high elements after lunch until around 3pm. We have picnic tables on site, or groups may leave to eat at a restaurant and come back. You can also order pizza, etc. if you want to eat on site. CHEFS is not responsible for students during the lunch break, so parents must be sure their students know what is expected of them during that time.
The following two forms must be printed and filled out for each participant: http://sites.tamuc.edu/nttb/files/2012/02/Climbing-Wall-Waiver1.pdf & http://sites.tamuc.edu/nttb/files/2012/02/Challenge-Course-Medical-Form1.pdf
You can find a list of what to bring, in addition to your signed forms, here: http://sites.tamuc.edu/nttb/files/2014/12/What-to-bring-and-not-bring-to-challenge-course.pdf
The challenge course is located just east of the Commerce High School, here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Outdoor+Adventure/@33.239466,-95.921302,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x71400c33d701bd46!8m2!3d33.2381613!4d-95.9203113
CHEFS has been given a group discount to make this affordable to our families, so this event is dependent on having 20 registered and paid participants by June 11th, 2019. Only participants who are both registered and paid will be counted towards our group. Payment is non-refundable, unless we do not meet our minimum attendance, so please write this event on your personal calendar and commit to attending upon registration. If we do not reach 20 participants by June 11th, your payment will be refunded.
Looking forward to a fun day of building confience and strengthening friendships among our homeschooled teens & tweens!
