I'm new to homeschooling in Alberta and have lots of questions!
Please use our Resources pages to get started.
If you're in the Edmonton area, consider being our guest at two meetings to see if HSCF would be a good fit for you and your family! We are a Christian homeschool family support group, not a homeschool board. Read About Us.
We'd love to hear about any other questions you may have that weren't answered after reading through these FAQs and browsing our website!
How do I become a Member of HSCF?
The following is from our registration application form. Upon payment & approval, your information is stored in our HSCF Member Directory. If the JOIN link is not available, we are not processing new memberships at this time.
If you are a homeschooling family, are planning to homeschool, or have homeschooled in the past, AND you agree with our statement of faith, you can apply!
The cost for a current membership is $50.00 payable online (begins July 1, 2018). To pay by cheque or cash, please attend a regular Monday night meeting. You will be able to login as a member after we have received your payment and approved your application.
All memberships expire June 30th. The annual fee is not pro-rated for months missed, so we do not generally activate new memberships in the spring. Our membership year runs from July 1 - June 30.
If you have any questions regarding membership, please email us.
The Fine Print:
Acceptance of applications is at the discretion of the HSCF Board. If this application is not accepted, your membership fee will be refunded. We reserve the right to withhold membership privileges if a member misrepresents or misuses this membership in any way.
By registering, you are giving your consent to receive HSCF member emails & acknowledge that our website uses analytical info.
HSCF assumes no liability & all events & activities are at your own risk & responsibility. If your family chooses to participate in HSCF group events, please be informed about the nature & safety of each and of the appropriate conduct expected; you as the parent are solely responsible for your child/ren at all times. An organizer may additionally require you to sign a waiver for an event in which you choose to participate.
Do I have to agree with the HSCF Statement of Faith to become a member?
Yes! Our name & mission statement affirm our purpose.
Members come from a wide variety of church affiliations, but we are united in our Statement of Faith, goals and philosophy based on Biblical principles and historic Christianity. Agreement with our statement of faith is therefore required for membership.
Members are encouraged to feel at home practising our Christian faith together, and guests may expect prayer and/or scripture, Christian resources, etc. at meetings & activities.
Do I have to volunteer if I join HSCF?
No, but...you are expected to at some point! There are lots of options available, and we are all busy families.
Our vibrant group is run entirely by volunteers - no members are paid to serve. Mentoring volunteers as we pass the baton to each other is integral at HSCF so that we can accomplish our Mission Statement together. Consider & pray about how your family can volunteer. We understand that some years it's possible, and other years it just isn't. That said, volunteering is a responsibility of your membership in HSCF.
Members, we have a Volunteer page that lists all sorts of opportunities to serve one another. If you've been with us a while, please check it out!
Our group is a registered society. We have an Executive (President, Vice-President, Treasurer & Secretary) who serve up to two two-year terms, plus a Board of Coordinators who give further leadership - all busy homeschool parents.
Come to be blessed, and to be a blessing to others! Read this article about the importance of committing to a homeschool support group.
