High school Juniors & Seniors - Embark on an educational journey that brings anatomy to life. Explore Human Anatomy in NOVA's Anatomy Lab!
The Anatomy Lab offers a distinctive, hands-on experience, emphasizing kinesthetic learning for students across various levels, health programs, and educational pursuits. Utilizing a fully preserved human cadaver and organs from our pathology collection, these teaching tools provide an unparalleled learning experience.
Key Features:
- Real Human Cadaver: Engage with a fully-preserved, previously-dissected human cadaver.
- Pathology Collection: Explore organs from our pathology collection.
Gross Anatomy Lab Policies
- Sessions are 1½ to 2 hours long
- Cost: $25 per person (cash discouraged).
- Two sessions are offered, each with 16 students. While one group is in the lab, the other have the option of taking a guided campus tour.
Attire and Protocol:
- Universal lab protocol: pants (no shorts), layered clothing, closed-toed shoes (no sandals).
- Comfortable clothing and shoes; students will stand during the entire lab.
Respect and Conduct:
- No photos allowed; utmost respect for anatomical donors.
- Inappropriate behavior, comments, or images are unacceptable.
- No cell phones, cameras, or digital recording in the lab.
Participant Criteria:
- Cadaver lab sessions for high school juniors and seniors ONLY.
- Appropriate classes include AP Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Sports Medicine, EMT, Forensic Medicine, Allied Health, Pre-Nursing, etc.
Lecture and Participation:
- Lecture to reinforce lessons by primary instructors.
- Informal presentation with encouraged student questions and involvement.
- Optional activity/field trip; not mandatory for students.
- Immature or inappropriate students may be removed; repeated issues may lead to future group restrictions.
Preparation and Health:
- Students must eat adequately before the lab and bring a significant snack for after-school sessions.
- Dangerous practice: an empty stomach does not help with queasiness, especially for high schoolers.
Class starts at 1:30 and will be at NOVA Medical Campus in Springfield. The group will be divided into two group sessions. One half of the group will participate in the lab while the other will have the option of taking a campus tour.
PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 2 DAYS OF SIGN UP. Sign ups will not count if payment is not made. There are only 36 slots. Once we lock in our numbers with the labs, no refunds can be issued.
