Rueggy Copen To All Instructors

My name is Rueggy Copen, and I currently reside in Chesapeake, Va. I am a southerner through and through, having never lived north of the Mason/Dixon line! I have lived in North Carolina, Louisiana, Florida and as far south as Queensland, Australia.  In 1996, I took a trip to Florida to see my then 82 year-old great aunt Ottie. While there, I asked her to teach me how to paint with oils. (She was good friends with and an instructor for Bob Ross at the time.) So of course she spent the next 5 days teaching me how to work in stained glass! On the last night of my visit, she put a paint brush in my hand and said “OK, now let’s paint!” That was the beginning of what has become a life time of being fascinated with and by art in many forms!

Over the course of the past 20 years, I have broadened my art horizons to include watercolour, pastels, acrylics, pottery, coloured pencil, charcoal, portrait drawing, cross stitch, book making, and (my latest love) altered art. While I love making art, I equally enjoy watching other people discover their own hidden talents!

While I was raised in a Christian home, I never realized I needed to have a relationship with Jesus Christ for myself until I was 19 years old. So one stormy February night, I knelt down and started what would literally become an adventure of a lifetime! There is an old gospel song that goes, “His love is richer, deeper, fuller, sweeter… sweeter as the days go by.” Over the years, I have learned that saying “Yes” to Jesus leads me to places/situations that I couldn’t have ever imagined in my wildest dreams!
