FAQs

COOP

Q:

What is coop?

A:

Co-op is a collaborative learning day designed to support and enrich homeschooling families. It is not a drop-off program or a traditional school day, but a shared effort where parents and students learn and serve together.

On co-op days, students participate in a variety of classes taught by parents and volunteers within our community. These classes are intended to complement each family’s homeschool curriculum by offering group learning, hands-on activities, and opportunities for fellowship.

Parent involvement is essential to the success of co-op. Families contribute by teaching, assisting in classrooms, or serving in other support roles. This shared responsibility helps keep co-op affordable, safe, and community-focused while modeling service and cooperation for our students.

Co-op is also an important time for connection — for students to build friendships and for parents to encourage one another in their homeschooling journey. Our goal is to create a supportive, Christ-centered environment where families grow academically, socially, and spiritually together.

You must be an enrolled family with Ridgecrest Christian School to participate in coop classes.

Q:

How long do coop classes run?

A:

Co-op runs on 10 week semesters; one in the fall and one in the spring.

Co-op is every Tuesday 8:30-12:30 (four class periods) and is not a requirement of homeschooling with RCS.

Q:

What are the costs associated with coop?

A:

There is a $25 registration and security fee per semester. Classes have a base fee of $4/class/semester. Teacher supply fees are added to this $4 fee and vary class to class. Most classes are less than $10 per semester.

Q:

Is there a parental work requirment to participate in coop?

A:

Parent involvement is a vital part of how our co-op operates, and each family is asked to fulfill a work obligation.

Families with students enrolled in one to two hours of classes are required to complete one hour of service. Families with students enrolled in three to four hours of classes are required to complete two hours of service.

Parents who choose to teach are an exception to this structure and are required to complete one hour of service, regardless of the number of classes their students attend.
