FAQ
Q: Do I have to agree with a statement of faith to become a member of HEARTS?
A: Yes. Our statement of faith is included in our Membership Application.
Q: Does the Class Day Co-Op provide all of the classes my child needs?
A: No, Class Day is meant to be a one-day a week volunteer cooperative where parents share the load of teaching main or elective courses. Currently, our schedule allows each student to take up to 4 classes each semester. For most families Class Day will supplement their main curriculum at home.
Q: Can I drop my child off for classes and events?
A: No, HEARTS Class Day and Events require parents to stay with their student(s) on campus at all times.
Q: Do I have to sign up for classes all day?
A: No, you may sign up for any of the available classes throughout the day, there are no minimum requirements.
Q: Are you a school?
A: HEARTS Homeschool group is a home educating support group, and Class Day is our volunteer parent-led co-op day. Neither of those are school entities, however, HEARTS members are eligible to apply for enrollment in King's Academy, a private school operating as a Private School Satelite Program (PSP). King's Academy does not have a campus, but allows home educating families to receive the benefits of school enrollment while maintaining their independence. By choosing their own methods and materials for schooling, each family maintains control of the education of their children.
Q: What are the fees?
A: Membership with HEARTS costs an annual fee of $65 per family to cover administration costs and insurance.
Class Day fees are $85 per family per semester which covers facility rental and general co-op costs.
Each class you register for will have a Supply Fee of varying amounts to cover class curriculum and materials.
King's Academy tuition and fees can be viewed on the enrollment application here.
Q: When can we register for classes?
A: Registration for students whose parent(s) are teaching a co-op class with us opens June 1. Registration for new and returning families begins June 8. Online Registration closes on June 15th. If you plan to have your student participate in a co-op class it is very important that you register online before registration closes. Failure to do so will mean that classes may or may not have room for last minute additions due to class materials being purchased in advance, based on the online registration numbers. If you need assistance with online registration, you can contact us for help.
Q: I am interested in Homeschooling, where do I start?
A: HSLDA has information about starting to homeschool in California. View it here.
