Who We Are

Our purpose is to affirm, equip and encourage families in Des Moines and surrounding areas who have chosen to educate their children at home. We are a Christian home education support group committed to successfully teaching our children principles of Christian character and academic excellence. HEED respects and supports the privacy of member families and therefore will not release any private membership information to any other entity.

Our Meetings

Each meeting is thoughtfully planned with the goal of equipping and encouraging our members toward excellence in their home education journey.

We invite a variety of speakers and cover a range of topics designed to support families in practical and meaningful ways. Alongside these presentations, we offer discussion groups tailored to different stages and teaching approaches. These groups may include Elementary, Jr. High, and High School, as well as focused conversations around unit studies, classical teaching, Charlotte Mason style teaching, traditional education, or unschooling techniques.

At times, one or more groups may place a special focus on a particular subject area such as history, art, math, or science, allowing members to explore ideas more deeply and share insight with one another.

To help families prepare, the agenda for each meeting is posted to the website prior to the meeting.

Statement of Faith

We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, including his virgin birth, physical death on the cross, bodily resurrection from the dead, and ascension into heaven where He lives eternally. We believe in one God, who exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the divine inerrancy of the Bible, and that it contains the wisdom of God, which is the source of all knowledge and is our ultimate standard of absolute truth.

We agree to maintain a Christian organization, reflecting Christian morality, principles and love; honor and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ; and be a light to the world. We agree that all group activities will be in keeping with Christian beliefs and standards of conduct.

We believe each parent is responsible to the Lord for the raising and educating of their own children, and stands accountable to the Lord for the course that is charted and the course that is followed. We support and respect the different methods of education employed by each family.

This Statement of Faith may not be amended or altered.
