National Geographic Bee for Homeschoolers
The Geographic Bee will be held on January 24th, 2020 at 2:00pm at the Burleson Public Library.
The Bee will consist of live geography-related questions for all participants, as provided by the National Geographic Bee committee for a school-level bee.
Eligibility: The Geography Bee is open to any Homeschooled Students in grades four through eight who have not reached their 15th birthday on or before September 1, 2019. Students may not be enrolled in more than three academic courses at the high school and/or college level during the academic year.
Students can only participate in one Geo Bee per academic year. A student is eligible to participate in the Bee for no more than five (5) years total. Students enrolled in conventional public or private schools may not compete as part of a homeschool association’s Bee. Previous recipients of National Geographic Bee scholarships and Children of National Geographic employees are ineligible to participate.
Enrollment: There is an $10.00 enrollment fee for each student who will participate in the Geography Bee. This fee helps to subsidize Homeschool Community for the expense of hosting an official National Geographic Bee. Membership in the Homeschool Community is NOT required to participate in this Bee, and this Bee is open to any homeschooled children in the Fort Worth metro area who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements.
However, the Geographic Bee enrollment fee is waived for the children of current members of Homeschool Community Support Group who have paid the family membership fee for the 2019-20 school year. Winner Advancement: The winner of this Bee will go on to complete an hour-long Geography Quiz, which will be submitted to the State of Texas National Geographic Bee for scoring. The Geography Quiz for the winner can be administered immediately after the Bee on January 24th, or can be scheduled for another day in the following week at the Burleson Library, but must be completed no later than February 2nd. The State of Texas Geography Quiz will be completed on a computer and will take approximately one hour.
Geography Fair: In conjunction with the National Geographic Bee, our homeschool group will also be hosting a Geography Fair from 12-4pm. Bee participants and their siblings are welcome to bring a project or presentation for the Geography Fair.
