Q:

When do you meet?

A:

We meet on Fridays from 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 noon in Mayfield, KY, for 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring.

When can new members join?

A:

New members are accepted around June (for fall) and November (for spring). Exact dates will be posted here and on our Facebook page.

Q:

Who can join the co-op?

A:

Families whose oldest child is at least 5 years old and starting kindergarten in the fall are eligible.

Q:

What are the membership and class fees? When are they due?

A:

  • Membership Fee: $55 per family, per semester

    • Covers facility use, supplies, field trips, and events

    • Must be paid before class registration

  • Class Fees: Vary by class ($0–$15 per class)

    • Set by teachers to cover materials

Q:

Can I drop off my child and leave?

A:

No. A parent or guardian must stay and actively participate each week.

Q:

Does the co-op replace homeschool instruction?

A:

No. Co-op offers support, friendships, and enrichment classes, but it does not replace home education.

Q:

What do parents do during co-op?

A:

Parents are assigned a role each week, such as:

  • Teaching or assisting in a class

  • Helping in the nursery

  • Serving as door security

There are no free periods for parents.

Q:

How many classes is my child required to take?

A:

All students are required to take 3 classes each Friday during co-op. The schedule is as follows:

  • 1st Period: 9:30–10:15 a.m.

  • 2nd Period: 10:20–11:05 a.m.

  • 3rd Period: 11:10–11:55 a.m.

Students must be enrolled in all three periods as part of their participation in the co-op.

What classes are offered each semester?

A:

Classes vary by semester and are taught by co-op parents who have been members for at least one previous semester. Subjects depend on the interests and skills of our teaching parents and are finalized after registration. Examples of classes we have had in the past are on the website.

What kind of classes are offered—academic, enrichment, or both?

Is there a nursery or preschool available?

A:

Yes. Nursery and preschool are available during all three class periods.

All babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children must be in the nursery or preschool during co-op hours.

Parents may request to be assigned to the nursery or preschool with their child if needed for comfort or transition. However, parents are not allowed to bring nursery or preschool-aged children with them while assisting in older children’s classes.

How does class registration work?

A:

Class registration takes place live on the website during a specific day and 2-hour window each semester. The exact date and time are announced in advance on the website and Facebook page.

Registration priority is as follows:

  1. Parents who teach a class or serve on the Advisory Team

  2. Returning co-op families

  3. New families, if space is available

Be sure to have membership fees paid before the registration window opens, as registration will not be accessible without payment.

How do I join co-op?

New members are accepted as space allows and will be notified by email.

How many families participate in co-op?

A:

We average 38 families and 108 children each semester.

Q:

What age groups or grade levels are served?

A:

Nursery - 12th grade

Q:

Are parents required to teach a class?

A:

No, parents are not required to teach, but every parent is assigned a responsibility during each class period. Roles may include:

  • Assisting in a classroom

  • Staffing the nursery

  • Serving as a door monitor

  • Other support duties

Teaching a class is optional, but it does give your family priority registration during class sign-ups.

  • Only families in good standing who have been at the co-op at least one semester are eligible to teach a class.

Q:

Is there a lunchtime at co-op?

A:

Yes. Lunchtime takes place after closing announcements each Friday and is an optional activity for families who wish to stay.

On three Fridays each semester, families have the option to order pizza for lunch.

During lunchtime, families are welcome to eat together, socialize, and play. It’s a great time for fellowship and building community.

What if there’s bad weather on co-op day?

A:

If Graves County Schools are canceled or delayed, co-op is also canceled.
