CHESS Gingerbread House Activity - December 11

Contact:  Lisa Wall
RSVP to:  Cindy Thomas
When:  Morning of Friday December 11th
Where:  Redeemer United Methodist in DeWitt

Please join your fellow CHESS families and friends for this festive tradition of building a gingerbread house! This year we will have a special twist: Proceeds will benefit the Redeemer United Methodist Church Food Pantry, and we are incorporating a food drive!

When: Friday December 11th

Where: DeWitt Redeemer United Methodist Church (Home to Clinton County’s largest food bank) You may enter the building thru the main entrance which is nearest Clark Road.

Please select a time below and send your RSVP with the number of houses you will be making to Cindy Thomas.

  • Group One-10:00 a.m.
  • Group Two-11:15 a.m.

Cost-$2 per house payable at time of check-in, and bring 1 bag of candy per family to share for house decorating.

Food Drive Information:  We would like to thank Redeemer for hosting our event by blessing them with an abundant replenishment of their pantry shelves during a particularly busy holiday month. Please bring in non-perishable items (please check dates as they cannot distribute expired goods)  to help stock their shelves, such as canned goods, peanut butter, rice, shampoo, soap, etc. Redeemer UMC Food pantry provided needy families with nearly 94,000 meals last year alone. Please prayerfully and creatively consider ways that your family can start now and make an impact such as asking neighbors or small groups to contribute to your donation….let’s share the love and load them up!!! We will have a donation box at check-in for monetary donations as well.

If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact the Event Coordinator Lisa Wall.

2016 Mid-Michigan Graduation

Contact:  Miriam Woods

The Mid-Michigan Home School Graduation is sponsored by Christian Home Educators Support System (CHESS). Even though this is sponsored by CHESS, you do not have to be a CHESS member to participate. Graduation is open to any homeschool senior in Mid-Michigan who has met their parents' requirements for high school graduation. This year's graduation will take place on Friday evening, May 13, 2016.

Why should you consider Mid-Michigan Home School Graduation for your senior? We believe it will provide an opportunity for your senior to graduate in a group setting, while, at the same time, reflecting the uniqueness of your individual home school ("Different homes, different schools, ... ONE LORD"). This ceremony will be an opportunity to bring honor and dignity to each of the graduates, but most importantly to glorify the Lord and thank Him for his faithfulness. It will be made up of group elements representing unity (such as a class verse and class motto/quote) and individual elements (student speeches given by a few) reflecting each student's unique personality.
Every family is an individual home school granting a diploma to their student for completing their requirements for graduation (diplomas are not awarded by or through CHESS). Parents of the graduate will personally present the diploma to their graduate. Each family or graduate will have an opportunity to share part of their schooling years, accomplishments, talents, personal blessings, etc., along with their future plans. As a group, the graduates will represent the Mid-Michigan homeschool community to their friends and family who are present.

There will be another meeting on February 18 at WLCC and one on April 28.  If you missed the first meeting but would like to participate, please email Miriam Woods.
