Central Homeschool Academics

Terry McHam To All Instructors

In high school, I took college classes during my junior and senior years after school. I went to Lee College, now Lee University, for 3 years. I traveled to California and met Dr. Gene Scott of Faith Center and Faith Broadcasting Network. While I was there, he asked me to help him for 3 weeks, until he could find someone to play piano and direct choirs. I ended up staying there! I taught music at the church school, led choirs and ensembles for the church and for the live TV programming. I also took classes at UCLA but still did not finish my degree.

I ended up in San Juan Capistrano and taught music at Capistrano Valley Christian School, one of the largest schools in Southern California. While there, I also taught classes for the Southern Baptist Convention on pedagogy, continuity (transposing, etc.) for pianists around the state. I moved to Central Church in 1989 as Minister of Music. And from there, I’ve taught Kids Choirs and written curriculum for the graded choirs. I have directed and produced the Summer Theater Workshops. I also have taught classes along with David Culberson in North Carolina and Tennessee on continuity, how to build a children’s choir ministry, etc.

I have the knowledge and zeal to teach these young minds and hearts. I love to see the sense of accomplishment when they realize they can make music, they can sing – music can transform the musician and the listener!
