FAQs

Q:

How do I apply to join?

A:

Q:

What is MMCHE?

A:

MMCHE stands for Mid-Missouri Co-op of Home Educators (sometimes you'll hear members shorten the acronym to just CHE). We are a homeschool co-op in Columbia, MO. We are a non-proft group ran entirely by volunteers, who also homeschool their children.

Q:

Is MMCHE religious?

A:

Yes, we are a Christian homeschool co-op. We welcome families of all beliefs and education styles but do want to be upfront that we are a Christian group and many events begin in Christian prayer or are held at churches. Members are required to comply with a minimum code of conduct reflecting Christian values  such as respect and modesty.

Q:

Does it cost money to join?

A:

Yes, the current annual registration fee is $35 per family.

Q:

Are membership fees pro-rated if I join in the middle of the school year?

A:

No, membership fees are not pro-rated. Our membership year begins on July 1st and ends on June 30th. This means that regardless of when you join, your membership will run through June 30th and new annual fees will be due on July 1st.

Q:

What does my annual registration fee pay for?

A:

Your annual registration fee goes directly towards funding events and activities for the students throughout the year! We have so many fun parties, activities, and fellowship opportunities that we are able to offer to our members because of these funds.

Q:

What kinds of events or activities can I expect to see on the calendar?

A:

We plan a variety of field trips throughout the year like apple picking in the fall, visits to the zoo, nature walks in the park, etc. There's a Homeschool Expo to kickoff the new school year, a Fall Festival, various holiday and themed parties, a formal dance, a yearbook committee, graduation ceremony, and so much more...this is just a sample of what we have going on. Did we mention there's a whole separate calendar of events just for our Teens!? Lots of fun and fellowship going on around here!

Q:

Does MMCHE have any membership requirements? Am I required to attend events?

A:

As a co-op all events are planned, prepared, staffed, and cleaned by members. We do require that members serve on one committee each year. You can read the committee descriptions here and select your preferences when you fill out your application to join.

You do not need to attend a certain number of events to maintain membership. Just think of our calendar of events as a buffet of options to choose from. Choose what best fits your family's schedule and interests!

Q:

I'm brand new to homeschooling, where do I even start?

A:

You're in the right place! Joining MMCHE will provide you and your student(s) with a homeschool community. Community is so important when you choose to embark on this homeschooling adventure! With MMCHE you'll find both support and fellowship.

If you're just starting out it's important to familiarize yourself with Missouri's homeschool laws. HSLDA is the Homeschool Legal Defense Association and offers a wealth of information. (As an added MMCHE membership perk, we offer a discount on HSLDA annual memberships.)

Families for Home Education (FHE) is our local statewide homeschool organization whose purpose is to protect the inalienable rights of the parents of Missouri to teach their own children without state regulation or control. They always have a friendly face ready to help answer your homeschool questions.
