About Our Group

Our Lady Queen of Peace Homeschool is a group of Chicago-area Catholic homeschooling families. We offer support and information to parents, and provide social, academic, and spiritual opportunities for our children.

Our group is Catholic in character and consists of practicing Catholic homeschooling families. Our primary purpose is to assist each other in building up the kingdom of God on earth by raising children who are strong in the practice and knowledge of their Catholic faith as taught by the Magisterium in union with the Holy Father.

Activities

Many activities are available to members to help with the social, academic, and spiritual growth of our students.  Members may come to as many activities as they would like. Please note that the activities available greatly depends on parent volunteers.

Opening Mass and Picnic:  Each school year begins with an opening mass and picnic for the group.

All Saints Day Party:  In November, students dressed as saints attend mass and an All Saints Day party involving games, treats, and a parade of saints. Always a remarkable day!

Field Trips:  Various field trips are arranged each year such as apple  picking, pumpkin farm, historical farms, museums, and plays.  We always have new and exciting additions each year!

Family Picnic:  Each summer families gather for a picnic to enjoy getting to know each other, food, and games.

Holiday Parties:  We have a St. Valentine's Day party each year and often a  St. Patrick's day party.  We also often arrange Christmas Caroling for the group to share the joy of Christ with others in a nursing home.

2nd Friday Clubs: Every 2nd Friday we meet at a local church where children of all ages can attend different clubs. Activities we have held in the past include:

- Little Cherubs: Pre-School students and their parents can attend this club for a fun, educational,  and Catholic afternoon of crafts, games, and stories.

- Little Flowers: Girls ages 5 and up meet once a month to learn about a saint and a virtue.  Upon completion of homework, the girls earn patches to sew onto their sashes.  Meetings usually involve plays, games, and crafts.

- Blue Knights: Boys ages 5 and up meet once a month to learn about a saint and a virtue.  Upon completion of homework, the boys earn patches to sew onto their vests.  The boys play games and do various projects.

- Saints Club: Boys and girls ages 6-12 learn about a saint for that month, listen to a virtue talk based on the beatitudes, and participate in games and crafts that bring it all together.

- Chosen Confirmation Prep: Teens ready to recieve confirmation participate in monthly preparation using the Chosen program from Ascension Press.

- Teen Faith Group: Teens participate in theological discussion inspired by the very popular Fr. Mike Schmitz or by reading and discussing the lives of the saints.

May Crowning:  Each May members meet at a Marian Shrine for Mass, crowning of a Mary statue, outdoor rosary stations, and picnic!  First communicants for that year dress in their first communion dresses and suits!

Park Days:  Once a week members meet at a designated park to socialize and for kids to play.  Park day is held May through September.  A great way to get to know the group!

Frassati Club: Inspired by Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, teens meet once a month and participate in dynamic activities like horsback riding, indoor rock climbing, archery, and hiking. Open to teens in 6th-12th grade.

Monthly Parent Meetings:  Once a month parents meet to learn or discuss a  topic.  A curriculum night is held at this meeting  once a year for parents to  see and share their curriculum.
