About Shanan Homeschool Co Op!

About Shanan Homeschool Co-op
We are a parent led Messianic Homeschool Cooperative diligently teaching our next generation to be leaders who fulfill the Torah as a lifestyle. (Deut. 6:7)

We welcome homeschool, cyber, and brick and mortar families.*

Program Statement
We provide Torah based activities, character development training, cross-curricular group lessons and projects, community service opportunities, and field trips. We seek to provide an environment of social and spiritual edification.

Vision
Our Goal is to collectively build up our next generation to be upright, powerful, and faith-filled leaders after Yah's own heart.

Shanan Homeschool Co Op has been serving Messianic families in Pittsburgh, PA and surrounding areas since 2017.

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. Deuteronomy 6:7

*We offer some Sunday and evening class times that can be convenient to cyber and brick and mortar families. Availability of these course times is not guaranteed.

Program Scope

>>Program does not and is not designed to replace Bible Learning that should take place at home and in your local Faith community.

>>Program primarily deals with academic subjects, Creative subjects (art, music, sewing/knitting/crochet, cooking), Adulting skills, etc from a Bible worldview perspective.

>>Program also focuses on Biblical Character Development and Character Qualities as part of our direct Bible training. Each student is encouraged to do a project and presentation on a Biblical character quality.

>>Program is Ruach/Faith oriented. Any family who believes in the Messiah and believes in living out the whole Bible as their lifestyle are welcome. This is also regardless of style of schooling (homeschool, cyber, or brick and morter).

Expectations of Parents and Teachers

Co-Op Commitment: Parents and teachers should commit to participating for the entire 8 week program.

Assignments - Teachers: Teachers are expected to provide quality assignments to students, be caring and patient, and on time for classes. Printables should be delivered to parents to print (if they have a printer) at least 24 hours prior to class time.

Class Times - Teachers: Classes should begin on time, and end on time if possible.

Class Cancellations - Teachers: Things happen, and our teachers are parents too. In the case that a class is cancelled, the teacher will notify all parents on the platform and by email as soon as possible. The preference is to give at least 24 hours notice of class cancellation. For emergency situations, at least 1 hour before class time. In urgent situations, at class time. But, prayerfully, not after class time.

Class Delays - Teachers: The same policy as class cancellation.

Attendance - Parents: Students should be present for classes that their parents registered them for.

Parental Oversight – Parents: Parents, an adult, or an older sibling should be present for classes with young children, and should check in on older children from time to time to ensure that all students are properly supported and on task in a virtual setting.

Although this has never been a problem, any correction on behavior or attitude must come from parents and not the teachers. We have never had issues, but our policy is that the teachers role and the Co Op’s role as a whole is to teach and enrich, not correct behavior.

On Camera Dress Policy:
We understand that children come to co-op in the comfort of their homes. We require that anyone in camera view be fully clothed. (PJs that are fully covering are fine).

  • For girls - this includes a full top and a bottom of some sort (or dress).
  • For boys - this includes a full shirt (not just a sleeveless undershirt) and a bottom of some sort.

Absences - Parents: In the case of absences, parents should inform the teachers in advance if possible; and at the time the class begins, if an emergency

Withdrawal from a Class - Parents: Just as with any curriculum, a class may not work for your child. If you would like to withdraw your child from a class, please send the teacher and Tirtzah Lewis an email for the adjustment to be made. Please do not stop coming to class without notice. We would like to keep all lines of communication open.

Disenrollment from Shanan Co Op - Parents: If, for whatever reason, Parents decide to disenroll from Shanan Co Op, notice should be given to Tirtzah Lewis (ShananHomeschoolCoOp@gmail.com) within the first week of the decision so that any needed adjustments can be made. Please do not just stop attending or responding to emails. We would like to keep all lines of communication open.

Any concerns should be sent to Nichelle Lewis, ShananHomeschoolCoOp@gmail.com
