Educational Cooperative

Q:

What exactly is a co-op?

A:

An educational cooperative is a community of parents and caregivers working within the confines of chosen curricula to educate their students in a cooperative manner. Cooperatives are not drop off enviroments. Families provide the time, instruction, and encouragement to the students enrolled.

Q:

Can I drop off my student?

A:

No, each family must provide an adult who attends the co-op for the duration of their student(s)' class choices. Each adult will be assigned a teaching or support role. Please see the handbook for more detail.

Q:

How do I know what class I'll be assigned to?

A:

We would love to hear from you what you'd like to teach and we will do our best to accomodate preferences but ultimately the schedule is dicatated by the class registrations and availability. All parents will be expected to fulfill a quota of points based on the number of classes their student is signed up for. Please see the handbook for more information. If you have a degree in something particular you'd like to teach, please email the admin team at thecooponthenorthshore@gmail.com.

Classes

Q:

Where can I see your available classes?

A:

Classes are viewable before requesting membership by clicking the Class Info tab at the top of the public page or viewing the Class Matrix on the bottom of the public page screen.

Registration

Q:

How do I register?

A:

Simply use the "Request Membership" link under the Login/Request Membership heading on the public webpage. Follow the instructions and wait to hear from the admin team. Please be sure to read the handbook and make sure you are aware of all co op policies before requesting membership. Once your family approval email arrives, class registration will be open for your students. You will receive an invoice with payment instructions in the weeks that follow.

Q:

Do I have to register for classes the whole day?

A:

Nope! You can take one class or up to five. You can have one kid take three classes and one take two. You can do whatever best suites your family. We will assign teaching positions or administrative positions according to how long you're attending. Please see the handbook for more details.

Q:

What if the class I want for my student is already full?

A:

  • Place your student on the Waitlist for the class
  • Select your second choice class and enroll your student
  • The admin team will evaluate waitlists for maximum inclusion for all families
  • If a spot opens in the class you will be notified via e-mail by the admin team with further instructions
