FAQs
General Information
Q: |
What kind of co-op is Cultivate? |
A: |
We are a volunteer-led and operated co-op serving members in various ways. Our classes are intended to provide enrichment and academic material, as well as friendships to enrich your family’s homeschooling experience. Cultivate is NOT a drop-off program. The families enrolled manage this organization, and it is the combined efforts of all families that have made this co-op a success. We serve in various roles as teachers, helpers, activity coordinators, and leaders to make sure we are serving each other as Christ would have us do (John 13:14-17, Galatians 5:13-15, and Ephesians 5:21). |
Q: |
How often do you meet? |
A: |
Co-Op classes meet once a week for 12 weeks per semester. |
Q: |
What if I want to be a part of field trips, educational fairs, and parties but do not want to participate in classes? |
A: |
At this time, we are not offering a non-class status option. All of our members must participate on class day. |
Q: |
What about lunch and snacks? |
A: |
Each family packs their own lunches and snacks (a microwave is available for your convenience). The co-op community enjoys eating lunches together in the Fellowship Room; however, you are welcome to go out to eat if you wish. Snacks may be provided by you to your own children in between class periods, if need be. |
Membership
Q: |
Who may join Cultivate? |
A: |
Families whose beliefs align with our Statement of Faith and Statement of Beliefs regarding the Church, Marriage, Family, and Human Sexuality, as well as agree to abide by our Policies and Procedures, as laid out in our Handbook, pay their dues each semester, AND whose oldest homeschooled child will be 4 years old before the start of the semester may join Cultivate. |
Classes
Q: |
Are the classes the same every week? |
A: |
Yes, every week we have the same class schedule for the current semester. Your child(ren) would attend the same classes, which you would choose, for 12 weeks. |
Q: |
What type of classes do you offer? Core classes? Electives? Both? |
A: |
The classes vary each semester, but we usually ask the parents what they would like to teach and what classes they would like offered. Then the steering team plans the classes, attempting to make sure that each age group has some core classes and some electives to choose from. |
Teachers
Q: |
Would I have to come up with the curriculum for my class? |
A: |
Yes, you would be responsible for planning and leading your class, but you can enlist the help of your co-teacher. The leadership team is also always happy to help with ideas or finding resources. |
Q: |
What if I am not cut out to be a "teacher"? |
A: |
Teaching a class is not a requirement. However, in order to be a part of the co-op, you must either teach one class or assist a teacher (co-teach) in two classes. For your first semester, we want you to get acclimated to the co-op and the multi-child classroom. We have found that this leads to parents feeling more confident, and even excited about teaching a class in the future. We will not force you to teach, but we will strongly encourage it. With help from a co-teacher and support from our community, we know you can do it! Remember, we are all on a learning journey together, and no one is expecting perfection. |
Students
Q: |
Are the students divided according to ages/grades? |
A: |
Yes, we currently offer classes for 4 different age groups: For ages 0-4 we offer nursery and preschool classes. We divide the other students into the following age groups: 5-8 years; 9-12 years; and 13-18 years. These age groups will become more defined as our group continues to grow. Since we are homeschoolers, we understand that each child may fit differently into these age groups, and as the parent, you have the freedom to pick the class that your child fits into best, as long as the child is able to handle the material being presented and behave with a maturity similar to that of the others in the class. |
