OVERVIEW

We are a co-op of homeschoolers that meet at a church located in Addison, Illinois. We meet for 30 weeks (2 semesters of 15 weeks each) every Tuesday from September to May, with weeks off for Thanksgiving break, Winter break, and Spring break. We also have additional activities and field trips throughout the year and during the summer, Thanksgiving feast, a family dance in February, and an end-of-the-year celebration in May.

Our day runs from 9 am to 3:00 pm, with community lunch from 11 am to 12 pm. We have a variety of classes for pre-school through grade 8. Our classes are either taught by parents or outside teachers. You pick and choose what classes you want for your kids, and what time your family wishes to be at co-op. You do not have to stay all day, but you can if you want to! We do encourage families to participate in the shared lunch hour if possible.

The cost to join the co-op for the 2025-2026 year per family is a $25 registration fee (non-refundable) and $200 per semester (there are 2 semesters). This cost enables the co-op to rent the church, pay for insurance, and cover any other expenses. This amount gives your family access to all of our activities, events, free clubs, and option to register for paid classes.

There are also costs for each class. These are listed in the class description. This money is paid directly to the teacher to compensate them for their efforts. The class fees are per child per class.

While you and your child(ren) are not in class, we have a hallway/coffee lounge space to hang out and socialize in.

This is not a drop-off co-op and parents must remain on-site while their children are at co-op. Also, parents must help out by volunteering while they are at the co-op. Volunteers are needed for morning set-up, afternoon clean-up, hallway / door monitor, pre-school room helper, and art room helper.

April Haak

April began her homeschooling journey in 2020 with her two boys, seeking to establish an educational environment that fosters mental, emotional, and social development through interactive activities. April valued her experience as a Classroom Assistant with HGL in 2023-2024. She progressed to a Classroom Guide with Thrive in 2024-2025, for 1st-4th grade, and is enthusiastic about delivering educational lessons and enrichment activities to Thrive students this year as President and New Member Coordinator.

Annie Alvarez

Annie has been homeschooling for 15 years, has successfully graduated her 2 oldest children, and is now homeschooling her youngest child. Over the years, the family has attended the co-op's Gift, Little Red Homeschool, Champs, Trestle, Grow, and Learning Tree, and been in many homeschool groups, including Schaumburg House and the Village. Annie was on the board for Schaumburg House for 5 years and helped run Grow for 3 years. This coming year, the family plans to attend the Grow, Thrive, and Champs co-ops. Annie's focus at Thrive is as Vice President.

Kristy Haywood

Kristy started her homeschooling journey in 2023 with her two older daughters, then 7 and 10. She is focused on learning through the wonders of everyday life. She is currently homeschooling all three of her children, two girls and a boy, now 11, 8, and 5 years old. She happily joined the Thrive family for the 2024-25 school year where she started as the Classroom Guide for the Little Movers and Shakers class and the Pre-K/Kindergarten age-group. She is excited to be the little ones’ introduction to the classroom atmosphere and working with peers. Kristy is enthusiastic about getting messy and letting creative flow be free. Becoming Thrive’s new Secretary/Treasurer is quite the honor and a welcome challenge.

Christina Bonnell

Christina has been homeschooling her two children since 2020. Her family loves the flexibility and freedom that homeschooling gives them, and being a part of Thrive has rounded out their homeschool life by offering educational enrichment, community, and lasting friendships. Her family joined Homegrown Lilacs co-op in 2023, and the following year she joined the Thrive team as a classroom aide, as well as Fundraising Chair. This year, she joins the Board as Webmaster and Volunteer Coordinator.
